You did a god job removing the hard line that runs to the rear heater. And they look BAD. Are you not worried about the hard line that runs above the transmission to the firewall? They have to be in the same condition?

The upper lines are much more protected and were in good condition. As mentioned by Beno above... they can be replaced by separating them and passing the up and over the trans.
 
May I revive this thread? I am having this same issue (or at least I believe I am). Truck poured out coolant from passenger side rear from what appeared to be on top of transmission housing. I can't see it or feel (too tight) but it is only leaking on the passenger side along these two lines and dripping down. Are these the lines mentioned in this thread? If so can anyone tell me how to replace (PRAYING) I don't need to take transmission down?

Appreciate the help...and quickly.
 
Those are the lines to your rear heater. They can be bypassed in the engine compartment if you don't use your rear heater or don't want to go through the trouble of replacing the leaking parts to your rear heater.

1.The lines in the thread were the bottom lines. 2.There are a second set that run up and over the transmission.

If its scenario 1, you are in luck, not very difficult to do. Remove heat shields, cut hose clamps and replace lines.... 2 options here A. get factory lines and replace or B. Replace with high quality silicone hose.

If it is scenario 2. I quoted Beno on this one.... He separated the factory lines and snaked them over the trans.

I had senario 1. MY over the trans line were in very good condition.

Just to be clear... you leak is under your passenger door? Any pictures of the leak, you mentioned?
 
Shebuilt, check out post #2... At the bottom of the picture you will see to 2 hard lines 87209B (top) and 87209C (bottom)

Otamiway, is the inner diameter 1/2'' or the outer diameter 1/2''. My guess is that you were referring to the inner diameter being 1/2''

A month ago I noticed coolant on my garage floor. I assumed that the two forward pipes had finally rusted through and would have to be replaced. However, I kept driving the truck, but I did purchase some heater hose a 90 elbow to eventually do the bypass as a temporary measure. Well after driving to my buddies house a few weeks later, I noticed the leak had become significantly bigger. After a quick inspection I noticed there were no leaks where I suspected on the rusty forward pipes, so I thought maybe a hose clamp had rusted off or had come loose. To my horror after removing the heat shield the leak was coming from the rear pipes that I had replaced only 5 years ago (post #8). One pipe had completely rusted and burst open on me after just poking about! It was a good thing that I had the bypass hoses in my truck at the time.
 
Canman.. wow, glad you caught that. YES it is a good ideas to take down the shields and inspect those like... Just spray those little bolts w a good penetrant let soak in, a little heat then pull.. gently. Take a my crazy advice on this.
 
So to be clear bypassing the heater altogether is simply deleting the heater valve underhood
