Outback Air Group Buy Interest?

I spent almost two hours yesterday trying to find someplace that didn't require me to give them a tank in exchange... Didn't realize this was going to be so tough. Knowing this now, I might ante up and order a second extra container just to have it on hand, considering it's been difficult trying to find CO2 with no exchange.

Mounting later today. Pics to follow.

Best.

Glad to hear everyone has received them. I think we're all scratching our heads about how and where to mount. Ideas, suggestions, pics with specs anyone?

slee's mount

Hi guys,

Sorry I missed out on this group purchase (I'd love to know the cost and if I can still purchase).

Here is what Slee is now offering...

I stole an idea posted by Chris_Geiger a couple of years ago. Mine is also a custom made bracket that replaces one of the 3rd row brackets. You can buy a bracket to modify from C-Dan if you want to keep the ability to mount a seat back there.

Mine is designed so that 1 tank can be mounted vertically, 2 tanks can be mounted vertically (back-to-back) or 1 tank can be mounted horizontally. I am now mounting the tank horizontally on the Outback rack.

I am looking for pics.....

This is what Chris Geiger did with the 3rd row seat bracket:

You can see my mount at offroadair.net click on mounting ideas. I used a plywood base bolted to the 3rd row seat bolts and bolted the CO2 tank bracket to it. Stable and dont have to take it out to use it.

photos are of my 4Runner but I did the exact same thing in the 80

Neither do I...yet.
Gonna learn at some point. Can't be too difficult.

In the mean time, I'm going to fashion something out of wood. Wood, nails, screws and glue I can do. :D

Brent,

I don't weld either so I designed this one and had a fab shop weld it up.

ok, those are all great ideas...but say you want to keep your 3rd row seat. Where now?

You'd need to have something fabbed that would connect to the 2 hooks in the rearmost part of the cargo area. Something flat that could connect/lock to those hooks.

That's about all I can think of...unless you want to go roof-top...

It's not an either/or, you can have both; just not at the same time. Or you can have one 3rd row seat and the tank. Just buy 1 bracket from C-Dan, mod it, and use the bracket when you're taking the CO2 tank wheeling. Mine went in and out many times. Takes about 5 minutes.

I've called a dozen local places and none of them fill CO2 tanks in-house--perhaps some kind of city regulation. They all send them out. The lowest price I've found was $20/refill. :frown:

Praxair in Santa Rosa will do it, and there is at least one welding supply place there that will do it too...

Check places that do party event ballon tank fills.
There is one near me that will do a $13 fill, a welding place that will do $8 fill.

I'm sure there are places in the bay area...

Praxair in San Francisco was the first place I called and they don't fill in-house. I've called ALL the fire extinguisher places and a couple of welding places and they send it out. A party balloon place is a good idea. I'll call them next time. I just need one local vendor! I might have to resort to getting my own refill station at home!

as mentioned in another thread, try the soda distributors and dry ice vendors...

Is Seals Compressed Gasses in the bay area or just down in SoCal. They filled mine in 5 minutes for $11.04.

Thanks e9999 for the possible additional sources. Brent, I checked and there are no Seals Compressed Gases in the B.A.

25 phone calls later... the search continues...

Damn - that stinks! I'll check with my father-in-law who lives in Walnut Creek and see if he knows of anyplace. He's very dialed into stuff like this.
