The wife and I had our annual camping trip this weekend. We do this every year when the kid goes to my sister's house for the summer. I love my daughter, but it sure is nice to not have any kids around for a while
Not hardly a complaint all weekend.
This year we started out in Lake city and headed up Engineer pass. We got in around 8:30 on Friday night and found a place to camp just as it was getting dark. The views in the morning were spectacular. We camped just a few feet from the river, which made or some peaceful sleep. Headed out Engineer toward Ouray and ended up taking the Mineral creek trail to town. Some guy in a 4 door rubicon wished us good luck when I asked him if it was open all the way. Haha. We were in our 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 3" of lift and 31" BFG all terrains. Apparently, he didn't think we had much of a chance. Once we aired down and took the sway bar disconnects off, the Cherokee made short work of the trail.
We got into Ouray and did some asking around to see if Imogene pass was open, Bushducks.com said it was still closed as of 5/23. A local trail guide told us is was open so we headed on up. Imogene was just awesome, maybe the coolest trail I have ever been on. It was greatly enhanced by the amount of snowfall and water still present from the winter. We were up there pretty much by ourselves, and were pushing the capabilities of the rig for sure. That made things interesting a few times. We ended up making it to Telluride where we drove around and checked out the sights, then headed up to last dollar road to camp for the night. We headed out for Montrose in the morning and took the long concrete trek back home Sunday afternoon.
Two tanks of gas, an SUV full of camping gear,Two dogs, 54 beers, Four trails in ouray/ Telluride in one weekend. Oustanding.
I posted all the pictures on Facebook, here is the link. If you can't view them, well, you are just going to have to get an account and friend me
