One with some rock, that is. I have talked with a MS geologist, have attempted to research potential lands, and contacted various industries along with bringing this up with the Jeep club also.

There is sandstone available in parts of central MS that occurs near the surface that can be durable and hard enough to create a decent off road park..... decent compared to what we have now.

2 different bands stretch westard from AL all the way to Vicksburg. One band comes though Rankin county and much of it is close to the surface out near Brandon.

Another band starts just this side of Meridian and continues wnw. It's what you see cut through when you drive E on I-20. This is also what you see when you drive past the Silver Star at Philadelphia.

An initial thought was that a group could locate some land that could be converted to a decent place to wheel, that could also host national rock crawling events on a man-made course..... being near the Silver Star casino would certainly help.

Any ideas?

This is sort of a free-for-all..... I'm not looking for another business venture personally, so this isn't some spam or plea, just think it's something decent that could be pulled off if the right minds got together.

this a pic the geologist sent me of some of the rock ledge they excavated where the Silver Star is. This type of rock is in several places and he sent me various pics of the excavated rock when a road or something had to be built.

Wow! Good info.

I always thought we would have to go to the NE corner of MS near Picwic Lake to find any rock and hills to climb.

Thanks for sharing

That would be cool, crawl the day away then just go across the parking lot and gamble all night.;p

It would be awesome if we had a Gray Rock somewhere around here.

Go Boise State!!!!!!!

I used to hear alot about an ATV park outside of Meridian. A developer ran them of but never did anything with the land.

there was one with a name like "bear butt" or something similar that was attempting to be developed outside of Brandon

Also, apparently, there's a lawsuit about some land, or was a lawsuit, in Brandon where it was sold for the new BHS or something like that and it had a lot of this rock underneath. I didn't get the whole story on that, so I'm not sure what that was about.

The "Tribe" has plenty of land...beautiful for wheeling.

They built a waterpark...why not an ORV park?

Ahh...Picwick Lake....beautiful lake, beautiful surroundings. Makes my mouth water.
