Yup the driveshaft deal would be the clincher for me too. Orion will allow you to keep what you have. Besides with the SM420, your crawl ratio will be super slow. You didn't say what you had in the diff's.

The only reason I would install a Toybox would be to keep a low range similar to stock....I would not install a 4.7 Toybox over an Orion if the object is to get a 4:1 low range.

There will be far less install issues with the Orion, hands down.

    Good luck!

i voted for the orion because it takes less room from what i can see and the 0.6:1 difference isn't gonna matter if you already have an SM420

I like my orion, no doubt about that. AND...if you run into any issues, like I did, there are a multitude of threads about them. Not sure if that is a good or a bad thing, actually. But, it has an incredible low in it.

Also, we did not have to make any modifications with the driveshafts mated to an SM420.

    141.0564:1

heck it isn't too bad even with the rest being stock (4spd, orion, 4.11's it comes out at a nice 58.9:1 sure beats the stock 20somethin)

The only drawback to the Orion is the one low range option. You have super slow and that is it. With the Toybox you have many lowrange options. I normally wheel with just the Toybox 4.7 engaged and the stock transfer case in highrange. When I want silly crawl I engage lowrange in the stock tranfer case. I like the many gear options and find myself using many different combinations depending on the trail.

If you don't want all the gearing options definitely go with the Orion as the install is MUCH easier.

545:1 will only piss the people off behind you...

The 116:1 from the 420 and Orion will be overkill for most situations...

The 67:1 from a 420 and stock three speed case works great for 99% of the trails you will ever encounter....

would the 58:1 I quoted above from 4spd, orion and 4.11's work with the stock 74 F for same situations?

I would say the Orion is low for the stock 4 speed I break all kinds of parts. Like front locker, rear locker, rear pinion, right berf all that and with a old 1F.

Do you drive on the street much? Just wondering how well the combo of 4.10s and 37's work out. How is driving on the highway or driving up street hills?
