We get lots of ice, snow, and cold weather around here, but don't build snow/ice wheelers. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is holding those tires on? The wheels look WAY too wide for the tire.

Forgiven.. :-)

When driving in snow we take particularly care of tire pressure. No problem going down to 2-3psi if you are careful, then adjust tire pressure up when out of the tough spot.. But if we do not use beadlocks it is quite common to glue the tires to the rim using a special primer and a very high strength sealant/bond.. But not unusual to pop a tire off the rim when running low pressure.. So we always have exhaust jacks or similar, and starter gas/lighter gas to pop the tire back on.. On-board air with pressure tanks is also a convenient.. And of course 2 tire valves per wheel.. So it makes filling and letting air out easy, at the same time it is convenient if you must use two cars with on board air to blow the tire back on the rim.

Arctic Trucks have developed and produces a special 38" tires especially for snow driving, the bead is insanely thick, approx 2" if not more.. So they are especially hard to pop off the wheel. Google "Arctic Trucks AT-405". best snow tire I've ever had..
