This old girl has been sold!

Here is my rig. Flexible on price for mud members and I would be willing to trade for a locked 80 series with good mechanicals/interior - body is less important, but don't want a rust bucket. I would also trade for a Tundra or a 100 series, Tacoma, Toyota pickup with 22re/5spd, 4runner with 22re/5spd (solid axle preferably), newer 4runner - I like Toyota 4x4s..

Basically, after a wheelin trip with my fiancee and dog I realize the fj40 is not for me anymore. It runs and drives great, but I want something larger and less modified. Price for MUD members is PRICE DROP TO $6500 OBO.

It starts every single time. I have taken it on multiple highway trips. With the 4.88s comfortable cruising speed is about 56 mph. The body has a bit of rust starting on the front bib, a body seem underneath needs some attention and the rear 1/4s have had new metal welded over them by the PO. The frame is gorgeous - I don't think there is any actual rust on it.

This thing is daily driveable right now. The only thing I would replace in the near future is the brake master cylinder due to a slight leak and when I do this I would upgrade to vacuum assisted brakes. It still has the 1970 style master with no brake booster. I never bothered to swap because it stopped great. The emergency brake works, but these old T-cases had a tendency to leak past the splines on the rear output and lube up the e-brake pads which is obviously not ideal. Removing the parking brake drum and cleaning the pads fixes it for a while but once they get lubed up again the e-brake stops working. The body has dings and scrapes all over it - it was a rig that got used. All in all I think it is a super solid rig. It needs a fresh set of enthusiastic eyeballs to put her to good use again!!

STUFF THAT I HAVE DONE OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS....
-SOA lift with stock front springs and fj60 rear springs in the rear
-Relocated shocks with some long skyjackers upfront and 12" travel bilsteins in back.
-Anti-wrap bar on the rear axle.
-Rear disc brakes using Poser's rear disc brake brackets.
-Front knuckles with disc brakes from a 1985 mini-truck (large pattern steering arms and bigger birfield)
-fj60 steering box with crossover high steer using fj80 tie rod ends.
-Saginaw power steering pump - this leaks at the high pressure line. It's a brand new line but something isnt quite right.
-Tuffy Center console with an old CD player in it.
- 35x12.50 BFG mud terrains with old BFG all terrain spare.
-New OEM water pump
-New Thermostat (there wasn't one in it??)
-New OEM clutch master and slave cylinder.
-Soft top with doors
-Bikini top
-Aluminum half doors
-Hard-top with hard doors. Almost all the pieces are there but they are different colors. I think a back door is missing? I'll have to check. And the glass needs to be put back in one of the sides.

STUFF THAT WAS DONE ACCORDING TO THE PO...
-Rebuilt Non-usa spec 2f. No leaks. Starts perfectly everytime. Doesn't burn oil or coolant. Runs at perfect temperature and makes great power...for a 2f.
-Non-Usa spec carb.
-Jim C. recurved dizzy.
-Desmogged
-Safari Snorkel
-Rebuilt 4spd transmission mated to 3spd transfer case with transfer case parking brake. This is a noisy combo, but it shifts well and never comes out of gear.
-4.88 gears with an ARB air locker in the rear
-ARB compressor under the hood.
-New EZ wiring harness
-Roll cage
-Swing-out tire carrier
-Autometer gauges. The speedometer broke and the gas gauge reads funny.

Bump. Thoughts? Price too high? Market too small? I don't need to sell, but I am getting the itch for something else. Help me out folks. I will entertain trades, but I'm not looking for a project.

Bump. Would also trade for a Tacoma, Toyota pickup with 22re/5spd, or 4runner. Or really anything that tickles my fancy.

Price to $8300. Also, I just picked up a bunch more hard top pieces. Should have more than enough to make a complete hard top.

tough sell on that one Bud. I know personally cuz I just went through the same exact thing. My 40 was pretty too, V8 conversion but a nice looking rig. Finally after about 3 months I sold her and the unfinished top, doors, & misc other stuff for 10k. I had to be patient and get it seen by as many people as i could. I did not have much luck on here though. Craigslist finally produced a buyer, but after 10,000 tire kickers and other undesirables humping my leg on it and bascally wasting my time. Buyer worked at a Toyota dealership and was a cool dude and a fellow Mudder.

I too was looking for a trade for an 94+ FJ80.....never found that trade, but I sold my FJ40 on a Saturday at about 1030 AM. was driving my 80 home at 1pm same day. So it can be done!!

glad i did it too. I LOVED my FJ40 and do miss her alot. But the 80 is so much more comfy, and talk about capable. She goes. Best of luck man and stand at a price and try and be patient. I know it is hard.....

Best of luck!!!
Cheers.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I have had the same tire kickers off craigslist. It sucks, but what are you gonna do? I'm tempted to start putting it back to a stock condition. Maybe that would produce a wider array of people that are interested.

Bump for a nice 40. Seems very fairly priced. The market must be soft for a nicely set up wheeler, if I didn't already have too many trucks, I'd be really interested, good luck Brian!

I don't come on here anymore because I ended up with a 67 Bronco instead of the 71 FJ I almost got, but damn if you were closer to Cali i'd try to sell my Bronco and pick your rig up
