Not sure what Napa you are going to, but the orbitals are pretty expensive at my local napa:

Red Top $119
Blue $149
Yellow (goldish) $119

anyone know of a sealed batter that has side post that can be used for a decent load, not the 20-50 side posts like the optimas
Orbitals or Optimas?

The red top in the 80 is doing well. The one in the 40 is not. I use it as a shop battery too much. It has been run down a few dozen times and I have abused it. The Optima should not be sharged at more thatn 10 amps and not for more than 8 hours at a time. i've quick charged the mostly dead one a bunch of times and left it on the 2A charge over night a few times too. It still took 3 years to die.

I just wish I could get a Panasonic like the stocker in the 80. Great freakin battery.

I am thinking more on the lines of hoooking up my headlight harness and large power inverter up to it/

What side posts have you seen melt? Optimas or Orbitals?

How about hooking up the charging cable and ground to the side posts of the auxiliary battery and running the high draw stuff from the top posts??

thanks

I saw both Optima side terms melt nearly off. This guy was using his jeep as the "bitch winch truck" at this g-narly osticle. He didnt pay attention to his battery. Afer a long time the side terms were toast.

Optima doesnt recomend the side terms for winches anyway. Accessories are fine.

Been running both red and yellow tops in my FJ40 and 60. However, have had rash of premature failures (12 -14 months) with the red tops. Don't know if problem is same for new yellow top battery. Planning on setting up dual batteries just in case.

I'm a red top guy? Have been for about 5 years now. Lots of hot and cold starts. Many a winching hour. But no 'fridges or extra lights. Handles cd player cranked up for hours.
I'm a satisfied customer!
The best bet is a starting battery and then a deep cycle for all the rest of your 'lectric crap.
Liquid acid battery...bad.

Hawker Odyssey batteries. More robust than Optimas. More expensive, too, unfortunatley...

Ive got your Odyssey batteries. I paid like 200+ each for three of them and all three died in less than on year. I got ZERO warrenty help either.

They were called Back Panther Predater batteries back then.

No thank you.

Red top -- will be 5 years old in March and it's still running strong! never had a battery run this long....

Red Top = Starting
Yellow Top = Lots of Draw - lights + fridge + big stereo etc..
Blue Top = Marine.

If I had dual batteries I'd have a Red + Yellow and hook all the accessories to the Yellow, but since I've only got one its Red. I don't know what I'd do if I had a winch.... but I think dual batteries are on the same schedule as a winch... never.

I have 2 blues in my 60......

not sure why the po put em in.....can you all shed some light on why he would of went that route
