Christo,
On the leaks, I have yet to see any. Little fix it jobs like that give me something to do in the evenings, and a added bonus Onur get to learn a little. I will keep on thrashing on my 80! It did not hate mud yesterday except the I-6 just does not have the power to keep the swampers turning. I have to really get a running start on deep ohio mud. My 40 with the V8 walked through the same mudholes b/c the v8 could maintain the wheel speed needed to clean the swampers. Where is the V8 conversion Christo?

Blasphemy!

Uh.......got gears???????

Bad karma on this thread-talk of V8s-me no likey

One can say all the bad in the world about a V8. I too think the 4.5 is a great piece. It works great for me on the rocks and is easy on the birfields. For the wide variety of wheeling I do I need the v8's power to get the job done. Oh and once and awhile when I choose to drive my truck on the highway(instead of pulling it on my 5th wheel trailer behind my V8 powered truck) I like to go at least the speed limit. Turbos make sense to me, but the market has yet to produce a fairly priced reliable and available kit. Though, I would still be in my shop cleaning mud out of the turbo intercooler(if a branch didnt poke a hole in it) after wheeling in yesterdays conditions. Look at the percentage of V8 40 series trucks out there!

Yer V8 would've overheated too since the rad would be clogged with mud. You need to re-gear.

Can you talk more about this?

Why is clogged mud a problem with a V8 as opposed to a I-6 1FZ-FE?

Isn't mud going to do it's think no matter the size of the engine?

What would your recommendations be as regarding regearing with a V8?

Thanks much.

Good fer notin... Because alot of people have chev or otherwise V8s in their 40s-it doesn't necessarily follow that they are great engines. It may just be that everyone with a v8 in a 40 is not choosing the right engine-could it be vaguely possible? But go ahead jump off that bridge. I'll pick ya up on the side of the road even if I am limping at 500K miles-I'll still be rolling, you can catch a ride after your 3rd V8 swap seizes. I wheel a VARIETY of off road situations as well-NEVER, NEVER, NEVER thought my stock engines weren't enough. Being easy on the birfields is not even remotely a reason the I-6 engines are good. Torque is their enemy as well as turning angle. If such-the f, 2f, 3fe, and even the poor 1fz have PLENTY enough to snap em. In essence the birfields are STRONG-stronger than any power you could put at them when tires are aligned-If you had enough for breaking them in that situation I think you'd twizler your drive shaft or shear a ring gear first.

I'm not trying to outright say that it is wholly a bad idea-but it seems to me, as a purist, that there are PLENTY of options to look elswhere for the bulletproff engines if you want more power (i.e. turbo, supercharger, compression, porting, etc, etc, etc.). You say you'd be cleaning mud from the turbo-if you've gotten that far, you'd be pushing mud/water out of cylinders, independant of engines.

But if you're that disgusted, hey I'll take that engine off your hands. In fact I'll take it for free just cause I'm a nice guy...

Though I must say the 2uzfe is kinda growing on me-even if it is produced by a phantom American demand.

Hey Beno great pics man! It was nice meeting you at the Fall Gathering!

"Where is the V8 conversion Christo?"

Skrew that ....DIESEL!!!
5 SPEED

We now have 3.5 and 4" lifts .....that I wanted 2years ago! Damn!
Now I want to see German Turbo diesels

Sam

That 6" lift with those 37's is sweet. Im jealous. Im ready to get a real job so I can afford to make my cruiser bigger. Thanks for posting up a side by side comparison. That really confirmed that I want to go to a 6" lift.
