Thanks Christo for the install instuctions. I could not find them on your site....Were they there yesterday or am I just loosing my mind  ...Im now debating returning my heavy fronts and going for J springs with your plates and hoping that this will level the ride....these look almost easier to deal with than the OME bushings.....and add me in for a few of those compounding turbos :flipoff2:

Mook- I wish I had done that from the beginning. Would have saved a lot of money going with J's, L shocks and plates right off the bat instead of running the heavy stuff for 2 months and tryin to get rid of it.

You Are just loosing your mind. :flipoff2:

As for turbo's, today we start putting one on the 02 LC. We will see how it goes. Little uncharted waters in terms of kit vs truck it was designed for. Good thing the Terry from AVO is here :D

Man, I'm too busy with work as this thread almost escaped me before it goes on to discussing how bas-a$$ a turbo'd V8 will be.

Shocker, the off set bushings will affect caster and not just wheel base since you have two connection points on the front axle. Therefore any "lengthening" of the front control arm will slightly rotate the axle counter-clockwise (if front bumper is referenced as 3 o'clock & rear 9). Big note though is I wouldn't recommend this to anyone - just buy Christo's arms or correction plates. I'm doing this simply as an interim "fix" until I can do a 4/5-link in the front. However, I did run this setup on the DV run with Christo's 6" springs and it drove very similarly to the OME 850/863 spring setup with just the front correction bushings. I agree with others that the poly bushings from OME don't let the front flex as easily as the OEM rubber bushings. My newest thoughts about "fixing" the caster issue are to have the front-most control arm mounting hole slotted vertically (like Bjowett demonstrated) AND have the rear-most, frame mounted hole slotted horizontally. That way with cam-headed bolts or a set-screw setup (like Photoman showed) you could effectively change the functional length of the arm and force it to pivot on the rear axle mounted hole then set it to appropriate caster angle by the position of the front most axle mount.

I doubt this is ideal but the benefits are the ability to really dial in the caster so the way you have your truck set up is addressed versus a standard setting for a certain lift height. Also, you keep the stock arms with are pretty nice. Downside is you are hacking up the mounts and you might still not achieve the caster you need/want. But in retrospect I would have gone this route while keeping the OEM rubber bushings and bet I could have kept it driveable. Once I get all of this completed and tested on an alignment rack I'll post some real results versus my bs.

Oh, and for the actual thread topic - Mr. Gaskets are pretty hard to beat for the price and what you get. But that's the rub, you DO get what you pay for.

The quote function has been used to death on three pages about urethane spacers.....go figure.

part # for spacers

Im also intrested in the mr gasket coil spring spacers (1") for my 80. I was wondering if anybody has the part number for the spacers. Also if anybody has had any problems with them?. possibly slipping out during off road use.

I ordered mine from Summit Racing. I'll look for the numbers. I haven't experienced any problems with them yet and they don't appear to have moved since installation.

Neither the spring spacer nor the spring should slip out if you strap an arrestor cable to your axle. This can be home made or store bought. Just measure the length you will need at full extension.

Unless you go with super long travel shocks, the springs will never get to the point where they are unseated.

If you want to be safe, you can always "zip-tie" them to the top spring coil.

Since we are kinda on the caster plates, kinda, well i'm if not i'm hijacking for a second......What about these joints in the control arms using slee's caster plates?

I think that would allow you to take off the front sway bar at the trail head and get some real nice flex without over stressing the plates.

The J-springs plus the 1 inch spacer have made the steering at highway speeds very sloppy and loose. The tires like to catch every rut and imperfection in the road as well. I know some of this is due to running 35's but not all of it. Around town is not quite as bad but still obnoxious.

Trapper,

I'm very sorry. I didn't notice until now that you had done me the courtesy of answering me directly.

I had much the same experience as yourself in my own LC as to steering, but the source of my problem was a need to replace all my tie rod ends and stabilizer bushings. They were all worn out and lollygagging about.
