I bet the title got you all excited eh? It would me too. I have been seeing a lot of 6" lifts lately, but nothing more from OME other than their 3" lift. I'm considering the 6" instead of 3", but I am somewhat brand loyal. Who else would like to see a 6" OME suspension lift? Would be NICE.

I think the reason you will not see a 6" list from OME is because they are into enhancing the ride and keeping the rake (slightly lower in the front same as stock) stock and the center of gravity lower.

If they made a 6" kit you would have to have a diff drop enhancement among other things too.

I feel the 3" lift is perfect, anymore and it throws the COG off to much.

I thought that too about the Center Of Gravity, until I saw a new FJ with a 6" lift. It looked very stable. The guy had 6" lift and 35's on it and it looked very nice.

Well, I was VERY suprised with the look of the 6". I thought it would be too tall, not look right etc... However that wasn't the case. I'll probably still be going with the 3" OME as that's what I have wanted since the start, with all HD springs.

I agree that the 6" lift looks great - it's one of the weird things about the FJC: the much bigger tires and much higher suspension make the vehicle look better (too much body for the wheels in stock version, for my tastes), but the design makes it REALLY hard to actually implement these things (e.g.: front axle too far rearward for big tires). I'm sure the 6" lifts (I guess they usually combine a 3" body with the 3" suspension extension?) are stable. My only problem is that when you add in the diff drop to make the CV angles appropriate, you don't again any ground clearance :( All you get is whatever extra you can get out of the tires. I think if I were really pondering the 6" lifts, I'd probably end up asking for Sol's design specs on his Demello-implemented solid-axle swap :bounce:

Not sure this guy added a diff drop. I can see where it might be needed though. I also think the body looks too large for the stocker tires. Same as the 80 and 100. Big body, small tires. However 31's looked good on my old FJ40 with no mods. I don't believe this fellows lift had any body lift to it, it was all suspension. I think he had a ProComp with ProComp 35" AT tires.

Probably stick with the 3" lift and some 33's or 34's.... I'd like to get some 35s in there. I'll chop the body mount myself and do that mod like the others to make it work. Spacers will probably be necessary.

Old Man Emu is an Austrailian company, and vehicles in that country are limited to 3" of lift. That is the reason you don't (and won't) see their name on anything taller.

I don't see how that is possible. The CV angles would be so severe that the halfshafts would be binding against the lower A-arms or something.

That isn't true. The competition OME springs are 4" and 5" for the 80 series Land Cruisers. Granted they do have tages on them that say for competition use only. I used their 4" competition front springs on my 80 series and they were perfect for a mix of rocks and expedition type wheeling with a 315.

I'm not a big fan of huge lifts. It just gets to a point where the vehicle isn't stable enough on the trail to be fun to wheel.

well I think the fact OME says it's for competition use only (and not street legal) basically means billybongo63 is right. OME isn't going over 3" of lift. I remember reading somewhere that big lifts are illegal and there is some strict inspections to pass...

anyway, for the purposes of FJC owners, whatever works on the 80 series doesn't much apply to wnat will work on the FJC. JMO

So I'm right and I'm wrong!
Thanks for not flaming me to bad, I should know better.
I was only passing on something I heard a long time ago by an old Aussie friend.

You learn something new everyday!

Billybongo63,

Actually I could be wrong on this too, but I think they can go taller if they have an engineer's certificate. Maybe an Aussie will chime in? There are a lot of huge lifts available in Australia for Toyotas.

FirstToy,

The OME J series springs are not competition only and they are well over 3".

But non of that really pertains to the FJ Cruiser. My comment was merely to show that OME does put their name on larger lifts.

but when those taller springs are used with the vehichal wieght they are rated at.....they will sit at 3" over stock I think

it might not be a certain lift hieght but a certain height over OEM stock, same with tires, a certain % over OEM stock is OK. Different places in OZ I think are different.

also, by ARB/OME staying 3" or less.....they dont have to deal with issues that taller lifts bring with them.....so less liabilty for ARB and less headaches with buyers.

This is actually true in WI 4" over stock including tire dia. increases. check your state most states have lift laws.

though most don't enforce them.
