Oil/ Water Trouble

I just got my head, timing set, oil pump and gasket set today from EB and have discovered water has mixed with the oil (Mobil 1). What steps do i need to take to clean it out. Is it as simple as running an additive through the engine? Please don't say total rebuild

just change the oil.... with cheaper stuff. run it about three hundred miles and change it again. there is so much dirt that gets in there when it is apart you'll need to anyways. then put your mobil in. if oil is in your water jackets then fill your coolant system with water and a good squirt of dish soap. run it to operating temp then flush the system. leaves the system squeaky clean. works best with a coolant flushing machine.

You mean after you did the head and timing stuff? It's a common problem if you leave the pan on, it catches all the coolant that spills out of the front of the block.

I flushed mine 3 times with cheap oil, and it didn't get all milky after that. Been good since.

No, I haven't replaced anything yet, it's milky from the HG leak.

I flush it tomorrow if that's all it needs; registration and smog is due next week so I'll flush and drive it once before the repairs; don't want the late fees . Thanks for quick response

Oh, that's not good, I would not drive it until the repairs are made. If you do drive it, you could be looking at a total rebuild. That milky oil can ruin bearings.... Sorry to give you bad news.

NP, thanks for the warning ! So when I do the rebuild, just wipe as much of the milky stuff away, then oil flush. What about pouring kerosene through it while it's apart (just a thought) ??

Just drain and refill, no need for kerosene. Anytime I do major engine work, I refill with inexpensive oil and change again after ~500 miles.

There are two common points where water gets into the oil on 20R motors. The headgasket and if the timing chain and/or guides are bad the chain can wear a hole in the cover. If you have a hole in the cover, ether replace it or it can be welded up.
