Does anyone have the oil pressure specs or acceptable limits for the 22re? I recently picked up an '85 4Runner and I am still trying to get an idea oh how well all of the stock gauges are working.

The stock oil pressure gauge has three lines on it, but it never reads higher than slightly over the lower line. In the short time I have had the truck, the needle has never made it all the way to the middle line.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Howdy! I'd guess that it has between 150,000 to 200,000miles on it. If so, then that's normal. If it runs OK and sounds OK, then it's probably OK. Just keep doing oil changes pretty regular. But, if the gauge doesn't move at all, then you may have a plugged or bad sender or fried gauge. I have seen many older Japanese engines leave residue deposits in the passage way to the sender, I'm guessing because it is mounted low and downhill from the rest of the oil passages. I have had good results by just removing the sender, flushing it out with SD 40, and then turn the engine over a few revolutions to purge the passage way. A bit messy, but effective. John

The sensor is right near the oil filter. Easy to get to if you wanted to put a mechanical gauge on it just to see what it is reading.

If you have the big round one it is for a gauge.

The little one that looks like a plug with a spade connector sticking out of it is for the Idiot light set up.

Everything sounds fine, other than the usual tapping in the motor when it is cold. It sounds like it is all top end or timing chain noise until the oil pressure builds.

I went ahead and picked up an electrical oil pressure gauge. I will know exactly where it stands after I install it.

Cheers,
