Dose your LC varry in oil presure from hot to cold? Mine starts around 1/2 way on the dash gauge when cold and moves down to 1/4 or sometimes a little less when hot - like stuck in traffic or long highway run at 80 mph hot. Is this normal fro these engines? My pickup sits at 1/2 all the time running the same 5W30 synthetic oil. Does oil filter brand make any difference? What is everyone using for oil filters?

I've read our gauges are "real" gauges and not "idiot' gauges meaning they will give you more accurate real time information. The reading does fluctuate and is normal, but I'll let someone else chime in on the "less than 1/4" reading.

Try a search for oil filter and you will be amazed.

1/4 on the gauge is normal at operating temperature and low rpms. If your oil level is good with the right oil and filter I would not worry.

I'm running Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w-30 and an OEM filter. Gauge shows ~1/2 on cold start up and just under 1/4 when warm at idle.

Change to 10W40. That should increase the pressure when hot.

What's the milage of your engine?

I am usng 5W40 Shell Rotella T synthetic, purolator Pure-1 filter 72,000 miles on original engine, never been apart. I am the original owner, and have changed oil every 3000K miles myself since I bought my 2000 LC. I never had the oil presure under dip under 1/2 on the gauge untill I switched to synthetic 5W30 at 50000 miles. I thought going to the 5W40 would make a difference, but it does not. No noises, metal shavings when I open up the old filter with tin snips. I am wondering if the synthetic flows easier than dino oil and does not have as much resistance? What is everyone else seeing?

whatever lex puts in there from the factory acts as described above. 1/2 oil pressure on the cold start and when the temp gauge warms to near 1/2, oil pressure drops down around 1/4. have done no longer trips, so i cannot comment on anything more than around town driving.

lex would likely put synthetic in there from the factory, right? may call the service dept and ask.

My '99 oil pressure gauge runs the same way, generally around the 1/2 mark and a bit above driving, 1/4 mark when idle. I'm at 92K miles now, and up until my last oil change around 90K, it had been running non-synthetic oil. Made the switch to Mobil 1 5W30 and it seems to behave/report about the same so far.

Should I run a heavier oil in the summer here in AZ like 5W40 or 10W40???

Go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and ask that question. I think you will find with your engine in the used oil analysis section that Mobil 1 10w30 would be a great choice for summer driving in your area. I think the 10w30 would work for you year round.

If you choose to run a heavier oil for your hot weather I would recommend Mobil1 0w-40 European Formula. It meets many of the tougher OEM standards that the others do not. A UOA of anything new would be informative for the board.

That said the 30 multiweights seem to do extremely well in the 2UZ.
