So I got some leaking- more than I like- and it is coming from the back of the front pumpkin where the drive shaft connects. I have exposed the nut and have the gasket in my hands. Any tricks as to how to get that nut off.:mad: I don't have a auto shop. I am working out of my garage and I have tried a number of ways to no avail. This looks to be a simple job, except for that hellish nut!!!
GIVE ME THE TRICK!
 
Take a close look at the nut. Is it dented in where that slot is on the pinion shaft? If so then you will have to grind that area of the nut away. Are you sure that the leak is coming from the pumpkin? Might it be from the front of the motor and is just dripping down on the pinion flange?
 
Pretty sure it is coming from the pumpkin. I just got it refilled and it is leaking mucho now. I saw the dent and I thought that it was about jamming a screwdriver in there to push it out...? Seems like it will be really tough to get in there and grind it out.

Or a chisel & hammer. Pound that dimple out and unthread it.
...Also called a "Stake Nut" and after you're done re-torquing it, you stake it to the slot with that hammer & chisel so it don't come off..
 
tell me it is right to tight left to loosen on this thing. I had seen that nipple and had nocket it out. I went out this morning thinking maybe I had not done it enough so I made sure it wouldn't be in the way! I used a floor jack on a wrench and began to unwieght the whole front end. It won't budge. Right to tight left to loosen, right?!!!

I am going to get serious now. My buddy has impact wrench. That should do it! Thanx everyone for helping me out. Once again! Pighead you're owed sum reebs. I now have a working odometer and speedo. I had to make a new post for the gear to set on and with a roofing nail I am on my way. The check is on the way!! As of today. Thanx
