I have the Battery problem fixed but discovered oil dripping out where bellhousing connects to engine when the vehicle was parked facing downhill. Since it only appeared while facing downhill I assume its coming from the transmission. The engine oil level appeared fine. Is there some sort of main seal in there? Looks like the tranny is gonna be difficult to get at.

Sounds about right.... Only one way to find out.... :D

It could be the input shaft seal, or the bearing retainer (It gets goo on it before going onto the end of the transmission...) If that's all you need to do and you get a tranny jack, it's a one man, 3 hour job....

I would say its the input shaft seal, and its located right behind the shaft that the clutch release bearing slides on. I just had to replace mine on my 86 4runner. At first I tried to replace it by just sliding the transmission back. It turned out to be a PITA, so I just took the transmission and transfer case off. Good thing because it turned out my clutch was socked with oil, so I ended up doing a complete clutch job too. The inside of my bellhousing was also coated with a mix of oil and clutch dust, which I got to wash off properly, and made for a much easier job overall.
Good luck.
