does this fill tube need a gasket or seal compound? It seems a little tight, but I don't enjoy oil leaks....

haven't fired it up yet. My other engines had a 'fill' port on the valve cover, and this thing does seat, but I don't know how vibration and jarring will affect it

The older engines have this type of an oil fill tube that's pressure fitted on the engine block, the newer 2F engines have the oil fill on the valve cover.

Make sure when fitting the tube it is snugly pushed into the block port, you may want to tap it with a mallet to insure that it's properly and tightly seated.
