Oil Cooler Bypass-Fairly Urgent

Since I can't get a thermo housing in time, I need to temp. bypass my oil cooler.

I've been told this can be done, but the person didn't elaaborate. (nows your chance David).

Can I just plug the oil cooler output on the W/P? If so thats the end of my troubles.

Just invented another short term plan just checkin it here to make sure I don't fawk something up.

1) plug heater feed at rear of head.
2) use W/P oil cooler feed to feed oil cooler
3) use heater return as the oil cooler return.

This is only temporary as I must be able to drive my cruiser tues.

You don't have an upper thermo housing to connect the upper oil cooler hose to, correct?

Plug the oil cooler feed hose. A lot of engines did not have the cooler. You can get by without it.

Get a 4" or 5" long 5/8" bolt (or whatever is the ID of the heater hose going to the front of the oil cooler), cut the threads off the bolt, file the shank of the bolt near the head a bit to create a lip at the thread end (previously), and hose clamp it as a plug in the end of the hose that is normally connected to the front of the oil cooler. You need to create that lip at the end of the bolt to make sure it does not pop out of the hose when clamped.

Shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour to make.

I know I don't need the oil cooler, but I knew I could plug the heater feed without issues, but wasn't sure if I could plug the oil cooler feed without messing up the W/P or not.

I didn't read your post before I started, and ended up rigging it with the heater plugged and the oil cooler operable. Got it all back together and took it for a few test drives last night with no problems.
I'll order a thermostat housing and get it all together correctly as soon as that comes in.

Either way works. Just seemed easier to plug the system that was missing the part, rather than messing with the heater circuit as well. Either way will have no affect on the water pump.
