Offset diff to ATLAS??

I may just build myself a "long range" tank like the MAF tank that goes under the seat, in the cab and work from there....
I'm excited about the possibilities this whole deal would have which would vastly improve many things in this rig that I've discovered since I had built it.
Always a work in progress.

Keith,
What don't you like about your rig? 203 box giving you problems or do you feel that the split case just won't hold up?

B

Atlas's are clockable so you could reduce the angle if it doesnt affect your belly height.

No offset rear output option with the Atlas, so no matter where you clock it, the rear output stays in the same location.

high pinion in the rear is less than ideal strengthwise so i personally would avoid that at all costs

Hi9 been going fine since 2005, street and trail, 5,500# truck.

:meh:

Theres nothing that i absolutely cant live with, but my 203 box is pretty finicky. Have to shut the rig down to shift it in or out and it pops out of gear on long descents. A bunch of little things that probably COULD be resolved if I wanted to tear the duals apart which leads me into the idea of something simpler .... in comes the atlas idea.
It'd be nice to just SHIFT and have ONE simple beefy unit to worry about.
The other stuff is details. More fuel capacity, wouldn't need to carry cans...
It'd be nice to have beefier FF rear axle for piece of mind, if the tank moved I could run a quieter exhaust...
Like I said...nothing I NEED to do, nothing ill be doing right away, just frilly details.

I can see those being issues. I'm not seeing how the gas tank would interfere with a center output? If the Atlas will shorten the drive train and you're not hitting the tank now I'm not seeing how it would hit while centered. If it's just your sump couldn't you move it off-center? Or is this also a reason to go to a larger tank?

B

So did you get DL vibes ABOVE 60 MPH w/ your set up??
I'm, not understanding why a CV wouldn't work vs. a u joint??
DC type shaft should negate the vibes, no??

Thanks for the input, all!!

60 is about all she'll do currently. Fast Eddy is right, it's the geometry. It's not ideal to run a CV, but it has been done.

Flat pinion.

Altas in your rig would just be icing on the cake. Go for it.

It's the sump that would hit the drive shaft. Only way to move that sump is to cut apart the tank.
The ONLY reason the tank ended up in that location under the rig was because the dual cases cut into the stock tank location.....
So... It's a "snowball" effect, you see.

Hey Keith what about a set of 4 to 1 gears for the split case, lose the 203, go 4l60 straight to the split case, just an idea,

DAMN!!!!
That's actually something that I didn't even THINK OF!!
Might look into that, actually!!

He doesn't have a set of 4:1. :(
3.05 is the deepest they go.

And ONE HELL OF A PRICE TAG on those!!!
HOLY SH%T!!!
1800 bucks?!? The atlas is 2400.00 (base price) .

Quit obsessing and go wheel till it breaks... then work on it.

The early Cruisers came stock with a centered rear diff and an offset transfer case.

And a 28+ inch long drive shaft, a rear output that was lower than the center output of the transmission and about a two inch change in companion flange heights between the t-case and the pinion.
