Think he was done with just sliders, hell no. This man goes all the way. He wants no fenders and Durabak. So what does he do? First he smashes the crap out of the running boards then backs up and rips off the mud flap and rear fender flare. Truly this man thinks outside of the box. Hell, at one point I thought he was gonna go for an ARB bumper and smash into a tree.:D

LOL! Great commentary on Rayjon's destructive habits with his wife's truck!!

I really think he liked Slomo's flareless Durabak'ed look!

Our good friend Mr. RAYJON put on a clinic for those you want sliders. Simple as 1,2,3 & easy sell to wife. Look honey I told you I needed these. Best part he did it to her car. Yep his 80 was still at home, this man is an absolute inspiration. I expect great things from this one, truly it was an honor to be in your presence. You da man!

Wow. Her 80. Rayjons last post was at 251 PM. Anybody know when will hear from him. :0

Before Pismo?

Mo pushing his luck.

The key is I new just how far to push. ;) I also knew when to stop pushing. :D Thank you Tare and Brent for taking and posting pictures. I of course was an idiot and forgot the camera at home, along with alot of other stuff I was supposed to bring.

I second that, a pleasure to wheel with. Suffered the most carnage and never once complained or lost the smile from his face.

It was great to see Dan and meet his wife and daughter, Ray and meet his wife and three kids, Tare pleasure as always and wheel with Brent for the first time. Brent the hospitality and company were very much appreciated. You are my kind of camper, prepared. Surprise, surprise. I swear I usually don't forget so much stuff. I hope even more can make it to the next one.

I had a great time as well. I am really impressed with the caliber of the trails in Big Bear. I will defiantly be heading back up really soon. My buddy Braden ordered sliders today. Funny how they always get them after they suffer damage. Brent you are the bomb when it comes to out doors cooking. I can still taste that apple cobbler in my mind.

I had to work tonight that is why no post untill now....

Real Close Mo... I guess you win........ it is the black water valve but it did hold water just cracked the slide mech. and as far as the stabilizing jacks go... Yes... all 4 were in tact going in and bent 3 comming out... (they were junk anyway, a pain to use and never worked right, ( already ordered some good scissor jacks).....

We got home and found on the camping web page where is says the road comming into Crab Flat is for high clearance 4x4 vehicles ... hmmmmm.....

So right now I am out one tube of JB Weld, and 2 clips for the flair and mudflap, 11$ for the black water valve and 120$ in scissor jacks ( I was buying anyway).... and then the sliders.... I figure about 200$ in steel to make Georges Sliders... and a small set for the back of the trailer (so this doesnt happen again).. Not bad for 2 rock gardens and a bunch of fun with a great group....

thanks to Brent, Tare and Mo, it was fun...

I just have to make some sliders and put them on my Crusier and put the good set of running boards on cathys, so I can wheel mine.... I am tired of buffing the scratches out of the black......

..ohh almost forgot.. right behind the small dent in the rocker is a 1.5" body plug... easier than I thought to fix that... going to give the paintless dent guy a shot at it...

Dan, on the skinned shin... spent about 15" getting all the splinters out after we got home... she was really good about it, ate a popcycle while I pulled out pieces of splinter......

Thanks to everyone this was a great time..

Ray, glad to hear that Meredith was a trooper. That was kind of a nasty fall.

Thanks to all who attended, we had a great time. It was great to finally meet Brent, and to see Mo (and Tilly), Tare, and Ray (and family) again.

I was not able to partake in the "rock garden of earthly delights", as it would have meant certain divorce for me. So, I joined the other trail group, which consisted of Braeden (Jeep Cherokee), Stan (FJ Cruiser), and Stan's son Jeff.

Our group had a fun day, nonetheless, on some of the more moderate trails around Big Bear.

The first series of pics shows Tare and Ray at the first rock garden. Notice the relatively good condition of Ray's running boards as a comparison to the photos above.

We ended the day by treating ourselves to one of the best views in the San Bernardino Mountains. The fire lookout at the top of Butler's Peak was built in 1936, and is now maintained and manned by a group of volunteers. The 360-degree views are second to none. To the west we could see Lake Arrowhead, and to the south, Big Bear Lake. The last photo shows the trail up to the peak.

Hey guys, nice photos! It looks like alot of fun :)

I'm going up this weekend so I would appreciate a list of which trails you guys did.
Holcomb starting at Crab Flats side and...?

The 80's look awesome out there

James, Mo has my San Bernadino map right now, but IIRC most of Holcomb Creek was N34W (I think). We only went part way and then cut back on 2w16X or something like that. He'll have to look at the map and chime in on what they really were.

Crab Flats was a nicely maintained little campground. The 'host' was very friendly and diligent about keeping the fire pits and toilet facilities very clean. I'd go back there again. Most of the campsites were well shaded with large pines. Parking for two rigs per site, picnic table at all sites and a fire pit. They actually were allowing fires in the pits. Kind of surprising given how dry things are already up there.

I would love to use these Dan but they are too extreme. You have to remember our magazines are a voice of reason to the public. If we endorsed this kind of behavior we could be held liable,.......:D

Great pics guys!! I can't wait for our next event. After I install my sliders of course (thanks for the pics to show my wife Ray!! She will now clearly understand the $800 I just gave to Ken Hanna;p ).

Mo those are some nice shots showing off your new driver side Hannas!!

So where and when are we going next? I know some Norcal guys have been talking about Joshua Tree...I dunno when though. I hear camping a cruising around there is really nice...don't know what month it starts to cool down though. We could possibly even get some of the AZ 80's to join us. I know that we should have a good showing at Pismo this year (can't wait for that either)

btw...anyone up for another PM party....I need a birf job, another radiator flush, install sliders, plugs and wires change, change t-case and diff fluids....I can help with PHH's (long and skinny arms here) If anyone wants to get together one weekend for those things let me know....Sundays are always good:)

Perhaps we can run Deep Creek Trail (Dishpan Springs). ;) I will definitely get the 315's first though. Save what is left of my rims.

Whoo Hoo! I had a feeling they were the jacks. I am glad you wanted to get rid of them anyway. Sounds like a successful weekend for you. You got to replace the jacks you wanted gone and get to do sliders to get rid of running boards.

I felt so bad, like we had ditched you guys even though that was most certainly not the case. I was very glad to hear that you all had fun and found some great trails and adventure. I am jealous I have never been up to the lookout. I will have to get up there next time.

We started out leaving Crab Flats on 3N16 and started the Holcomb Creek Trail (3N93) running west to east. From there we took 2N06X north to catch 3N16 back south to Crab Flats as we were running into alot of traffic coming the other direction and the toughest part of Holcomb is between 2N06X and 3N16. Holcomb continues with not alot of real challenging terrain untill 3N14 which you can take north to get to 3N16 again which I believe is a "short cut" to the start of the John Bull trail. Just out of Crab Flats heading north on 3N16 you will get to 3N34 Deep Creek trail aka Dishpan Springs. This is a very challenging trail that is alot of fun and beautiful from what I hear. It had been closed for many years and just recently re-opened. On the way out we cut up 2N54 to 2N13 and came out through Green Valley Lake. Not very challenging but beautiful. Probably more info than you needed but there you have it. Have a great trip.

Smitty I can't wait to see you on the next one. Your enthusiasm is contagous. :grinpimp:

Brent, thank you again for the kind use of your map. I will be in touch to get it back to you asap.

where are we doing this PM party and could making a set of sliders be considered PM ?????

Bwaaaaahaaaaaaa! Do you need sliders Ray? Man you were a cool customer having to take your wife's truck back to camp that evening!

My wife is really cool... Tare said "Man she is laid back"...and yes she is, she really didn't care...

She also knows that I can weld and do body work/ paint and she is driving my truck until I get hers fixed and get all the scratches out.........

BTW on the slider issue.. any reason i couldn't make one that looked like the stock running board??? Can someone educate me on why they all seem to use 2x3 and tuck it up tight and run a kick tube???

With my little kids climbing in and out it really makes a difference, if they were older I wouldn't care.

Ray your wife is indeed laid back and a very nice lady.

There is no real reason that you can't make some sliders look like the factory running boards if that is what you really want. The main thing to consider is that the more they stick out the more the rocks will have leverage against them. The reason most all are 2x3 and tucked up so close is that most people don't get crazy rock crawling and need steps to haul the family to the store in the same vehicle. :flipoff2: Slee makes a great set of step sliders that do both and AFAIC is a very good compromise between having steps and sliders. There are quite a few pictures of them on his site that you could use in conjunction with George's slider design to make a set to suit your needs. If you anticipate keeping your 80 for quite awhile you could weld the legs and main tube to the frame and later cut off the outer portion and make some body hugging tubes when the kids get older and the step part of the equation is not as important. Luckily my :princess: did not push this issue too much and I will probably have another vehicle as my daily driver around the time my son and possible future kids will need to climb in and out under their own power.

Almost forgot we could absolutely include the slider fab in a PM party as long as the host has the welding capabilitys.

Too bad I could not make it.
Looks like you guys had fun!

I was able to get away on Sunday, though, and I went to the Mount Pinos area. I'll try and put together a meet in that area if there is enough interest. I did go and check some trails and campgrounds. There should be something for all levels, from fooling around in Hungry Valley to Miller. More later.

Miller Jeep Trail would be a fun run. I have not run it in many years. Perhaps an early start out of the Frazier Park end and finish/camp near the summit or in Hungry Valley.
