I'd like to go to this year's event, but I need a seat. I almost had a seat, but plans didnt work out, partly my fault. Anyway I will need to do a fly n' ride. So if you have an open seat, and dont mind a long-haired hippy from Austin, PM/email me. I am flexible on where to fly into.

I tried the online multiple times and cant get it to work. I out a check in the mail today u should see it by friday

Not sure what is going on with the online registration. Feel free to email me at chairman@rubithon.com and I will email a copy of it to you directly. It seems as though some browsers are having problems with it. It isn't showing what the required fields are and if they are not filled in, you can't hit submit.

Bummed to report we are having to cancel the Jim Job's Night Buggy Run. Everything else is still a go.

Got off the trail today and stopped at Ice House Resort on Ice house road, Julie the owner said no one has called her about staying there. So check out Ice House Resort 530-293-3321 they have some rooms, camping area, room to leave your trailer if you have a street legal rig, full bar, restaurant and store. About 1/2 hour from Loon Lake staging. See you up there, John Pardi TLCA#1561

Back in the day the Lake Tahoe Hi-Lo's dropped some coin at this place. We used to reserve the restaurant on Friday night of Fathers Day weekend for quite a few years., everyone had steak dinners and lots of beverages. Some good memories were created at that bar, and playing pool there.

thanks for the reminder! Rather than leave my house at 0400 I might just spend thurs night there. I wish they still had a gas pump, but it would be good to give them some business, it's a tough go to run a business on that road. Robbs Resort comes to mind. I would stop there to buy something I didn't really need just to give them some business. They used to have a gas pump also, but not anymore . I heard that it is closed.

It would be great if a lot of us could stop in at Ice House Resort for a bite or a beer, bait, ice. etc... The economic impacts of trail closures is one of the tools that the El Dorado Board of Supervisors uses to bring pressure on the USFS to fight closures. The board of supervisors is solidly on our side, but we need to invest in the local businesses that help elect the board. Make sure to mention that you are headed for Rubithon.

Thanks for the heads up John Pardi!

Getting pumped! Got all the fluids changed today and the ARB front locker should be done by Tuesday. Truck is almost ready.

So how are we looking in regard to snow or any delays?

Awesome. Some of the least snow in years. Should be fine.

See you there.

Trails clear and ready to go, little water in the springs by the caretakers cabin but that should go away. Checked Ice House resort on the way home from the trail today and they do have a gas pump. John

Rubithon Raffle

Just as a FYI, I got the first truck load of prizes and I have to say that I have been hauling all the stuff in since 2001 and some one out did them selves this year. This will be the best raffle we have had in years. I'm starting to worry about how I'm going to get all of this stuff in! What ever happened to gift certificates? Hope everyone has lots of money for tickets. I have another truck load coming. See you all there. I will get it all there, even if it takes two trips!!!

Did you ask them if they are selling gas? The last few times we tried to get gas there it was out of service. But that was a couple years ago. When we go to Loon from South Shore we don't drive past Ice House as we take the short cut from the Wrights Lake road.

CAMPFIRES

I spoke with the USFS Pacific Ranger District. As of now Campfires are still permitted. They believe we should be good to go during our event, but weather can change this quickly.

Here is the phone number to call to check before you hit the trail..... 530-644-2349

I will check on June 17th before I head in and post up, but if you are coming in later and can verify and post here if anything changes, I'd be greatly appreciative!

You do need campfire permits, even for the propane stoves, but they are free and can be picked up at any Ranger Station. I am taking care of the stuff for the main Springs campfire

I apologize for not having all the confirmations out yet. Trying to get everything to pull the data together to mail out is a lot more effort than I thought. I am trying to have them done this weekend, but thinking mid-week is more likely

If you need confirmation earlier, feel free to email me at chairman@rubithon.com and and I can hook you up. Eric

Just called Ice House Resort and they are selling gas. Their # is 530-293-3321 courtesy of John Pardi.

OK, so let me get this right, they want you to have a damn permit to boil water on a propane stove to make coffee or ramen noodles? WTF!

It's no big deal. There is a small forest service station on Ice House Road that you need to go right by on the way to loon lake. Stop there, the rangers are nice folks. Fill out the form 1/8 sheet size, sign your name and they give you the NCR copy. That's your permit. In and out in less than 5 minutes. They basically want to tell you the rules and make sure you acknowledge that you know them.

I don't blame them for doing it given the number of complete fools that at times use the trail. California in the summer is tinder dry, and the slightest spark can burn down thousands of acres. It's not a joke. So take the high road and get a permit. This isn't about "the man" breathing down your neck.

But yes, they want you to have a fire permit to use a camp stove.

You can get one on their website too. You need to answer 3 or four questions about fire safety and then you print out a permit.

The link is in the first several pages of this thread I think.
