I am just starting to restore my '73 FJ40. I am a 1st timer. I have a chance to purchase some OEM rims. I am hoping to purchase 4 of them for 200 to 250$. I know you can buy them new for 150$ each. I am in no hurry as the FJ40 has a lot of other work. Is this something I should jump on or are these not that hard to find/ better off with new ones?

Thanks for the advice.

It's not a bargain at $250. They are popular now because the OEM look is in, but you can be patient and find them for way cheaper like I did. I got my set last year for $125 for all four with decent 30" tires.

Also remember that if your rig has been upgraded to disc brakes and those rims are from a drum brake rig they will not fit the front diff due to the calipers. This will also obviously happen if you decide to go with a disc brake swap down the road. To check the ones you are interested in buying look in the center of the rim and it will either be riveted together or welded. The riveted style are pre disc brakes and the welded are discs.

I would also suggest looking for a mini truck parts hoarder. Even though they don't have the tabs for the hubcap you can buy them or run them without the hubcaps. The mini truck guys don't tend to care about the stock rims since they usually go with wider rims to fit larger style tires for wheelin'.

I could not see by your pictures, are these riveted or welded trims? Look on the inside of the rim where it joins the outer part, you will see rivets for older, none for later model (welded). If they are riveted they are worth $100. Do you have disc brakes. Or plan to get? Early riveted version won't work.

Does anyone hear an echo??????

Right now I am not even sure where or how far to take this FJ. I will wait on these rims. I wasn't sure if it was something that I should get and store or not. Thanks for all the insight.

OEM still available paid like $92 each two years ago for my brothers ‘76. Welded FWIW
