you all find a difference in the mileage you get with a higher octane gas vs a lower? I ask because I recently completed a 2000 mile trip and was forced to purchase 88 octane vs the 91-93 I had been using. The difference on the mileage computer was nearly 2 mpg BETTER with the lower octane gas, from tank to tank.

This was a stretch of I-35 and fairly flat where I was. Nothing significant enough to make that kind of a difference...and my speed was consistent.

Clearly, this isn't a scientific study and I'm sure there are other things to think of...but i'm curious if others have found a difference.

If the higher octane of your normal gas was due to higher ethanol content, better mpg with the lower octane makes sense.

Ethanol is a lousy fuel.

I made the same trip (Cincinnati to Cleveland) twice in a month and got 1 mpg less with 93 than i did with 87. Going forward i am going to continue to mix it up and see if i get the same results or if it was an anomaly.
