Saturday November 3rd. It isn't far out - Nebraska has an away game.

I'll arrive @11 AM in the parking lot between the pool and the theater.

I'll bring a little portable grill, hot dogs, buns KM&R. Bring yourself something to drink. Alcohol is not allowed at the park. If you want to bring a side or desert something to share, all the better.

Bring kids &/or dogs if you have them. We'll be there until the kids are tired of playing on the nearby structures.

I'll post up some more details here as time allows.

Should I post a link back to this message to the other threads in our area (intro, last couple trip threads, etc) so that it pops up on peoples user CP?

I went ahead and put links in from the three most subscribed Flatland threads back to this one. Sorry if anyone's ticked for the quick spamming - it's the only way to catch you folks who only check your user CP here regularly.

Anyone with a four wheel drive Toyota vehicle is welcome to attend.
Children are welcome. There is a large play structure within shouting distance of where we're meeting.
Well behaved pets are welcome - if you bring one, be ready to clean up after it.

With any luck we'll have a nice collection of vehicles and owners. See you then!

Good on you for putting this together! I will be a big maybe but I will definitley try and attend.

I am actually going to be in the Lincoln/Omaha area this weekend. We have a wedding Saturday and then a good friend has a screening at Film Streams that we are going to attend on Sunday.

The forecast is 60* and no wind.

It will make a good day for cooking a few hot dogs and letting my kids run off some portion of their otherwise limitless energy.

My family is going to be there regardless - although if the turnout is going to be low anyway we may only bring one of the two trucks.

I'll be there from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. We'll have plenty of hot dogs - everyone is welcome.

Thank you Mike and Aaron for coming! It was good to meet you Mike - and great to see you again Aaron.

So - I'm thinking next spring I need to make a wheeling/camping/motel trip.

Options I'm toying with:

Land Between the Lakes - western Kentucky. Light wheeling, very remote camping. We were last there 4 years ago. The kids get March 13-19th off from school. That is a good time to do this one - summer heat & humidity & bugs otherwise sink this one. http://www.lbl.org/
Day 1 - Drive to a motel @ Mt. Vernon Ill.
Day 2 - 5 (3 nights) camping @ Land Between the Lakes
Day 5.5 start back - motel with a pool @ St. Louis.
Day 6 home.

Eastern Colorado Loop - dependent on whether passes are open by then. This one may have to wait until mid or even late June to be feasible. We were last there 2 years ago.
Day 0 (Friday evening) - Knock down ~4 hours worth of miles so that Saturday is a shorter drive and get the kids more time in the swimming pool.
Day 1 (Saturday) - Drive to Red Wing motel in Manitou Springs, CO
Day 2 - High & Low - top of Pike's Peak to bottom of Cave of the Winds & a bit of time in Garden of the Gods.
Day 3 - Medano Pass & Great Sand Dunes & Camp @ Zapata Falls.

Day 4 - 6 Draw a crooked line to Denver via Telluride.
Google Maps Route - one of many possible.
Day 7 Waterworld http://www.waterworldcolorado.com/park_map.html
Day 7 Waterworld closes at 5:00 - time to drive East to some Motel in Eastern CO or Western NE.
Day 8 (Saturday) Home.

Canoe the Niobrara river and wheel in the black hills of South Dakota is another possibility. We were last there 5 years ago.
Day 1 - drive to campground http://rockyfordoutfitters.com/
Day 2 - Canoe/Kayak the scenic portion of the Niobrara river.
Day 3 - Drive straight North into South Dakota.
Day 4+ - Tourist Tracks or Trails?
Day 8 - Evan's Plunge http://www.evansplunge.com/

It's hard to go much outside that general range without making it a 10 day+ trip. You'll notice a trend - somewhere to swim before heading home. That is by design - keeps the kids happier.

So - what's everyone else's favorite one week's vacation worth trip?

Good to catch up with both of you too. I think out of the 3 Colorado would be fun. We have family in Colorado Springs so it might work to camp for a couple days then go our separate ways...you ought to start a new post for this for others to chime in...
