Found on Craigslist while looking for parts. You now know as much as I do:

1973 FJ-40 FJ40 Land Cruiser Project Vehicle

From the pictures it looks like the truck has had a hard life - the paint job looks pretty quick-and-dirty with overspray everywhere, there's a half-done 6.0/NV4500 swap in place, and the interior looks like it needs a lot of attention too. Ad says something about water damage, not sure whether that's from the garage (he does say the garage is leaking on his project) or from some separate incident. Seller claims it was a pretty much rust-free truck from California, although the fresh cheap paint job means I would want to check that very carefully.

But if he's serious about the "best offer or the scrapper gets it" by tomorrow, on an ad he posted last night, it might be a decent source of parts, or even potentially a decent if *big* project.

If someone buys it to part out, there are some parts I could use off a 73.

the bezel is right side up!

I sent him an email just to get a feel. He says it has to go by tomorrow an is taking offers. He said someone has an offer in but is still taking them. Personally too many unknowns and a really long story on a mismatched rig. Might be a good deal for someone though

Yeah, the story kinda baffled me. Any time I see "it has to go right away," I always think "why, what's the rush?" Which is not to say that he's automatically lying -- it's craigslist, and I've certainly seen weirder stuff there that ended up being true.

I emailed him to say that if he was scrapping it, I wanted a few pieces from it. Scrappers around here don't pay well (I got $325 for a 4000+ pound Caprice wagon a few years ago, and that after calling everybody and their dog for a price) so if he's entertaining offers from them, maybe he's at least realistic that he is not sitting on a gold mine here.
