I thought I would share a few pics with you guys. I don't know what's gotten into me lately...2 new cruisers in the last month and I've got my eye on another one. Anyway..this one is a 1967 from Colorado..it was posted locally. It actually has very little rust. There are just a few things banged up and several big items missing...like a hard top:doh: The previous owner swapped out the original engine for a 2F and changed it to floor shift, otherwise it is basically stock and runs ok. A few pics:

I haven't quite decided what to do with here yet. I've got one dedicated FJ40 trail rig, and the girlfriend and I have the new 1965 that we are semi-restoring. Since this 45 is already quite a bastard, I am seriously debating swapping in an FJ62 drivetrain for a cool semi-daily driver. I've already got a 3FE/trans/transfer in the floor, and a swap to disk brakes and power steering is on the list as well. Any thoughts??

Save yourself the trouble...just send it my way so you concentrate on the other rig ;)

I kind of like those Cummins 3b conversions myself, but trowing 60 gear in it to make a nice DD sounds like fun :hhmm:

Well..it looks like the Hardtop that I had found is falling through. Its a long story, but one that goes toward proving that customer service isn't what it used to be..for some companies:rolleyes: I will know later today if this flops, so meanwhile.....does anyone have a lead at all on a 45 hardtop???

x2 - save us the trouble of finding out on our own :D

There are already some threads around here that give ample warning. Plus..they have made the deal "sort of" ok. I'll keep the details to myself and stay on track with my resto build. I'll post up some pics when I finally make some real progress. BTW...I am amazed at the quality of work you guys have done in some of the threads to save some very rough 45's. I will definitely treat this one with respect.

Well its good that they are "sort of" trying to make it right. Better than a PFO

A few updates:

I got a used hardtop from a MUD member that is in pretty good shape. It got some damage in shipping and the seller made it ok. However.....I just got a quote from the body shop to get it completed and painted on Friday.......5000$

I will be swapping bodyshops tomorrow or learning how to do body work.

The new radiator is in, along with a stock fuel pump. Some part are blasted and painted, some blasted and powdercoated. I got a fantastic air cleaner from a lawn-mower to suffice until I get some version of and stock carb and throttle linkage.

I started repairing the splices from the PO. Then I found a couple more. Next, I just pulled the whole harness:D

Here are some update pics.

This isn't going to be a great restoration with tons of paint and body work...I'm just tryong to get this truck back on the road so I can enjoy it. However, sometimes my OCD kicks in so I can't just fix something half-way. The pics aren't really of anything good, hopefully they will just be reference material for someone looking for some detail.....

as someone with serious cruiser restoration OCD and someone that has just completed body work on a FJ45, i'd pay the $5K and hold them to that price if that is for a complete paint job and move on.

i have $1300 just in paint & materials. $400 in sand/soda blasting. $2000 in paying a local body shop to fix the stuff that was to complicated for me to fix. $1000 in bed liner and this is just off the top of my head...... and thousands in new parts!

but, i have the pride knowing that the job was done right, how i wanted, with no compromise. i learned to weld. i learned that those little strands that fly off your wire wheel at 2am and go through your pants into your nuts can, well, be a little annoying:crybaby: i truly learned what the phrase "can of worms" means.

Great looking truck!!

I so wish the quote was 5k to paint the whole truck. The 5k quote was to do the top. Just the top. The top was already stripped and primed. 5k for the top only. Single stage paint. Yeah....that was 5k to do the top only. I did forget to ask of gold nuggets rained down out of the roof after every bump:rolleyes:

Luckily, I got several quotes this week and found a local guy with a good reputation who gave me a preliminary quote of 700$. I figure I'm still at leat 3000$ ahead even if he calls me tomorrow and doubles his quote:D

That's some damn fine thinking right thar! :D Good luck with the resto/build. **Subscribing**
