We've joined forces with Upstate Cruisers and combined our usual fall run in Cullowhee with our North Meets South run. If you've never been to Cullowhee with the us, you are missing out. This is my personal favorite and these trails provide some of the best views of our beloved east coast mountains.

BMTHiker (Rick) is heading up the gang from UC, so any of you folks from the South need to check in with him on the UC forum for role call.

I'm hoping to enlist some help from some of our members in helping organize this trip.

The general plan is this:

  • UC & ONSC meet at the usual park for a group photo and driver meeting on Friday around 11AM-12noon.
  • The UC group will take one route up to one of the camps and the ONSC group will take another route up to a different camp.
  • Then our paths will meet up on Saturday night for a big group camp at the upper Bald Camp.
  • For those that cannot meet on Friday noon to start, we'll devise an alternate route for you to meet up with us later at the camps. There will only be one secondary meeting time.

This is one of the best expedition runs we do all year. Certainly not one to miss if you enjoy camping out beyond the reach of cell towers.

We will be collecting waivers and ICE information for this run. If we can pull it off, we'll make advance copies available that you can fill out and e-mail back to us. If not then have your information available when we meet at the drivers meeting on Friday.

Hand Held radios (FSR) will be required in each vehicle for this trip or other short range communication device.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SEND ME A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS SO THAT I MAY SEND Y0U A RELEASE FORM
* indicates i have recieved your email for ICE info and release forms *

Can't wait!!!! :clap::clap::clap:

This sounds like an awesome trip.

How far a drive is this from Raleigh?

I have a stock 100 series with ATRAC and 285 BFG ATs. Would I be ok on these trails? Thanks.

Definitely in for this one!

I'd like to ask (beg) that you set the meet time for noon on Friday - it's a long drive from RDU. :)

Looking forward to it guys, I really hope we get a nice turnout, this is a chance to show some good ONSC representation and really enjoy a well organized ride.

You will make it with no problem, cant guarantee no pin striping though.

I"M IN!

Just FYI, you may get some minor pin striping from the limbs. Nothing that won't buff out. :hillbilly:

Also, anyone who has GPS with topo maps loaded, please come prepared. I would really like to get a map with all the spots plotted out. There is one somewhere in circulation that i think the Rover guys started. I would like to take that and add to it.

It is the rover guys, I used it when I went up there for the first time.

Its a great trip.
I would plan on 5.5 hrs from the capitol.
Youll be fine. We had an 04 hundred w/ us on HT's last year w/ no issues.

Well just for you....... oh wait it is set for NOON :D and i can say the NC side would be hard pressed to get there sooner.

We will have one primary meet time and only one secondary meeting time if it is necessary.

There will be no way I can get up there Friday, it would have to be Saturday. Any way someone would be able to PM where the Saturday night campsite will be?

I may have to look at the Sat option also, or at least, later Friday evening. I'm working on getting Friday off but I may have to leave on Friday afternoon and do some night driving to catch up to the group on Sat. As we get closer, I will be able to make definitive plans one way or the other.

In either case, really looking forward to being up in this part of the state...

As I mentioned to Brian in the other thread, I'll be on the same schedule and can meet / lead / give directions if it helps and is needed...

Ok folks... so we will be getting a role call started and will have to see how many people are coming to determine the route we take friday afternoon. We also need to wait to see what all participating members schedules will allow before we make the determination on what our second meeting time will be. Our second meeting will be at a scheduled time for all late comers to meet at. Im sorry but its not just as easy as telling you where we will be camped in thousands of acres of gamelands. Our second group will either have an individual familiar w/ the trails or will have and escort sent out to guide them in. The second group should shoot for friday eve. or sat am. Sat. past lunch and you start risking a late arrival in camp sat night. The trail on sat. is generally 4 hrs w/out problems, but we still need to meet up as a group first.

Thanks for the offer andy.....looks like youll have some takers

Sat night camp spot is going to be the upper bald and is accessible by gravel road. I can PM you directions after we make certain of the camp spots but it really will be best to travel w/ another. There are a few turns and zero signs. There are roadside camps available if some of you want to get a jump friday evening and be ready and already up there for sat. am.

If you guys want to post up whos coming, how many people youll have, and which group your aiming for (#1 or #2 is fine for now) then ill try and gather this info and add it to the first post as a condensed roll call. We will be using this info to gather ICE from all drivers and participants.

Assuming I get my 465 swap and SOA completed in time, my wife and I will be in attendance. We will be leaving with the Friday group.
