Good day,
Not sure if i'm posting on the right place...
I am from South Africa,
I recently bought a 1996 4.2 1hd-ft auto HDJ81 VX Limited Jap import.
It is sitting on 418000km and i am the 3rd owner. The vehicle is in a good condition and well looked after.
It does need a bit of work due to the age/high mileage and is still in standard form, hopefully not for long.
I've been browsing this site a couple of times and saw here is some good advice and answers, that's how come i decided to join.
Looking forward to all the info, pics, advice, tips, pictures, links and to share my experiences and info.

Cheers !

We really only care about pictures and cupholders around here

Definitely the right place for help with your 80. Welcome, and it's good to see some members from outside North America. There will be quite a few things different, from a US cruiser, but there are a few JDM rigs around and lots of people here with amazing knowledge. Put up pictures when you can and keep them coming. And, the official salute-:flipoff2:

Oooo :) You have the towel holders too! Jelly. Looks like a fine specimen.

After fixing a couple of the leaks and stuff, (thanks to this site) it started to develop a fuel leak. The pic im posting is not of mine, found it on here but leaking at the red arrow. What am i in for ?

Initially it looked like the leak was coming from the acsd(which it also maybe did) so i removed and blanked it off that's when i saw it was leaking from the accelerator shaft seal ???

Welcome
It looks like a good clean vehicle.
Take care of it & it will take care of you.

Speak to me guys, regarding the fuel leak on the IP in the above pics - do i have to remove the IP ?
I think all this s*** happend after running Liqui Moly Diesel Purge through the system...

Good to see another diesel! Welcome!

I would think that you shouldn't need to remove the IP if there is just a seal requiring replacement. If the pump hasn't been reconditioned before though, it might be time for pump and injectors to b reconditioned.

Very nice truck, but I'd like to know how come Toyota never offered any of the cool options in American like they do in other country's. I'd love to have a turbo diesel, factory swing away tire carrier, duel tanks, just to name a few. I do see that American wasn't the only country to get stuck with those factory running boards, along with that useless front end push bar. I guess that dealerships the world over just can't pass up the opportunity of making "extra" money off their customers by installing that stuff.

I read on here it is possible to replace the o-ring with the pump still on the engine and about half an hour job...
A friend of mine told me if i remove the plate/govenor cover they have to recalibrate the pump settings? We've got a trip coming up in a couple of days so i need to just sort the leaks out asap

Don't worry i feel you're pain...
Here in SA its the same, mostly Jap models that gets the nice stuff.
This one of mine doesn't have dual tanks and no lockers, but lsd if that is worthwhile anyway....
It is full time 4wd with centre diff lock and full floating rear axle

Welcome. Very clean. A buddy picked up same year recently, but not in nearly as nice shape as yours. You might want to check out the diesel section for issues specific to your engine as most here in the 80s forum have the petrol engine. Also check to see if the crank bearings have been changed as it seems they should be changed every 100,000 kms.
