Noisy Climate Control Fan

My issue is something different. I dropped the fan to clean it out hoping the one single little leaf in there would fix it. However, it didn't.

My symptoms are a bit different than those mentioned above. Recently my blower has started making a very high pitch noise and it doesn't stop or change pitch with different fan speeds. Aside from high, it's pretty constant. Tomorrow I may disassemble and lube up the motor but we'll see if that helps. May be time to just replace the blower..
Hey, did you ever resolve this issue? I have the same high pitch noise that doesn't change pitch until you put the fan on high, then it seems to go away. I cleaned out the fan to make sure there weren't any leaves inside.

I would love to try to get this fixed before a long road trip. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I didn't. Replaced the blower motor thinking that would fix it but didn't. I just have learned to tune it out or crank the music up 😔

Ah bummer, thanks for the quick reply though. My LX is at a shop getting valve cover gaskets replaces right now, if the shop can't diagnose the high pitch noise, I will create a new thread with a video of the sound and try to see if anyone has a solution to this. I'll let you know if I can solve this!

@SSI Yakker Hey, I found the article below and decided to try replacing the blower motor control module. I ordered the part and should be replacing it this weekend. I will let you know if this solves the problem.

I sprayed mine down with some electrical lube and that seemed to fix the problem. Haven't had an issue with it in years now.

Sprayed down the HVAC Blower Motor Control Module or the Blower Motor?

Hey, so i did replace the Lower Blower Motor Control Module and that solve the buzzing noise. Not a super cheap fix, but it definitely made my wife happy to not have the high pitched noise anymore!

Man if I'm ever in Charlotte again I think I owe you a beer. I was literally on the checkout page and decided to do one more search here on Mud and found your post. That Foreign Service article you posted is a gem. I tried what they described (Carl, lol) and my fan runs nice and quiet just as he described. You're right, not a cheap fix at all, but better than buying the blower and then the module!

Thanks for posting this.

Cheers!

Appreciate this thread that allowed me to quickly diagnose the issue of a noisy fan and access the blower to remove the rogue stick causing all the racket, or so I thought it was a stick...

Mine looked like this the first time I opened it up!

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Had a ticking noise and found all the above. 10 minutes and the blower is out, one big leaf was the offending noisemaker. Another 5 minutes and we're back in business. Definitely a 1 banana job.

Amazed that after nearly 350k miles I only found one leaf.

My 03 has an chirp sound randomly, it’ll come and annoy us for awhile than go away. By chirp I mean it sounds like a small bird squeaking/chirping on and off.

Tried all settings of speeds and vent options sound seems to random but only when HVAC is operating, if I hear noise and turn it off it goes away.

A/C doesn’t seem to matter, pulled blower motor out seemed clean. Reinstalled.

Max cold or max heat still sound will appear randomly. Recirculate will change the sound the most from what I heard but could be dumb luck.

I have an denso blower motor on the way, at least that’s east to get to. Hoping it’s not servos, they seem like a real PITA to get at.

I thought I would chime in here and give you a break down of my steps to fix this problem. I too had the odd noise from the blower fan. I removed the fan and cleaned it out and was confident this must be the fix as there were several small leaves and pine needles stuck in the blower fan. I also removed the filter and vacuumed out the debris sitting next to the evap coil. Put it all back together and still the noise persisted. Well this confirms a bad fan as the noise is emanating from the fan itself. Ordered a fan and installed it a few days later. Exact same noise. Now I'm researching into the Blower Motor Fan Control module. I pull it out and see it's a PC board inside with a few caps and whatnot. This must be some sort of chip controlled voltage reduction circuitry, maybe a kind of tank circuit? I speculate it's sending pulses of voltage to the fan to control speed (I found the PDF linked above later that pretty much confirmed this), so I start looking for the module. Shocked at the price I conclude this is robbery because my vehicle has an the Lexus badge I start researching the Land Cruiser part. Mine is a 2005 with push button controls for the HVAC and I just needed to confirm the LC had the same setup. Everything I could find it appeared to be the exact same components as the LX. The LX part ending in 60020 is north of $350, the Toyota part I ordered was $146 shipped, and it's the exact same part as far as I can tell. I installed it and the noise is gone and the fan works as expected.

Part number is 8716522050, and here's the eBay link I used: Lexus IS300 GS SC RX LS Land Cruiser OEM Genuine Resistor Blower Motor Control | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/115119811460

Wow, nice catch! I didn't even think about that. I paid $316 shipped for the Lexus part.
