Yes it sounds retarded, yet my brother and father jumped the family p/u backwards. And replaced the battery with the wrong one. Reversed terminal for multiple days.

It is an 87 2wd carb model. After I came and found out that they had commited the dumbest thing I had seen in a long time I got to work.

New battery hooked in + to + and - to -. Found the 80 amp fuse blown, replaced, and a 7.5 amp for the ignition under the dash replaced.

It turns over well, yet there is no spark. I assume that it is either the coil, ignitor or ? I am in need of ideas on what it could be along with how to test them. Got the tools not much knowledge on p/u ignition.

I searched and could not get any good ideas on where to look.

The family has been instructed to stay the f*** out from under the hood from eveything they own from now on. Call me and I will deal with it. Lesson learned.

Thanks, that was funny huh?

My local brain trust did the same thing a few years ago. After changing fuses I too had no spark. We needed the truck so I just started changing parts. The first thing I did was pull the coil/ignitor assembly off of my truck and stick it in there, and it worked. I went by the parts house on my way to the jobsite to get a replacement and found that they aren't cheap. I had been wanting to try a DUI distributor but I didn't have time to order one, if your ign-module is bad it would be tempting to switch. Good luck.

Well the brother in law has a delapidated 4runner that I guess that I can higrade the ignition module / ignitor assembly from. It is connected to the coil correct?

starting at the ignitor is a good idea.

also check the fusible links attached to the fuse block.

check for power to the ignitor, before condemming it.

use saran wrap to seal the top of the toilet lid in the familys house. hopfully they wont make too much of a mess. HAHA

meh

FYI... the ignitor/coil assembly on the carb trucks is different than what is used on the EFI engines. They don't swap. This is what a carb coil/ignitor looks like:

Thank you for the heads up, looks like I will have to do a little of old fashion trouble shooting instead of just swaping parts.

If there is 12v at the ignitor then it should spark correct?

And a trigger from the distributor? possible to check with a volt meter? or a test light?

X3 on fuseable links - happened to a "friend" of mine...
Yah, it was 6 in the morning, after a long night and some libations, and well, I tried to boost someone and hooked up the cables reversed. DOH!

Anyway, I would check fuseable links first, their easy to replace...
