I have a 95 4runner, just died going down hwy. Has no spark. Ihave checked all fuses, replaced coil, igniter, and computer with known good components. I have noticed the engine light does not light up so i cant pull any codes. Please help

And the wire from the dizzy to the igntion coil?

What shape is the distrubtor in? Is the rotor okay? How about the cap and contacts? is it set right?

The CEL is supposed to be on when the key is ON and the engine is not running. I had same symptoms and ended up replacing the ECU and problem solved. I know you said you swapped computer already, but you should get the CEL with a good computer.

Check the 15amp efi fuse
EFI main relay or it's control circuit could also have a loose or broken wire.

Also check the grounds.

x2 on timing chain (let's hope not)

Other places to check are 12v at coil post when key is on. Also, you may try replacing mag pickup in dizzy!

Thanks for all the replies, I am going to work on it today, I have checked the wire by the battery, all fuses inside and out. I have a dist. I am going to try today. I am pretty sure my friend said nothing was coming out of coil wire to dist. Does anyone know where the circuit opening relay is and if the bulb was burnt out on the cel would that have an effect on the computer? Also wiring diagram on this would help if I dont get anywhere with it today. Thanks

Before you go swapping the dizzy, pull the cap off and turn the key. Make sure the rotor is turning. If it is not, you dropped your chain and probably have a long road ahead of you as far as getting it back up and going.

If the rotor is not turning, you will not get any spark at the coil. The dizzy sends a signal to the igniter and the coil sends spark back.

Did you hear any rattling from the chain recently. These things break the plastic guides and start bouncing around causing them to skip teeth and even break. It is easy to prevent if you listen for it and check it now and then. If it goes, you may have damaged your top end.

PS - Another way to see if your chain is still intact is to remove the 4 acorn nuts on the valve cover and lift up from front side. You should see a large cam gear with a chain wrapped around it. Use a flashlight and barely crack the cover and you can get a glance with very little work.

This is all assuming you have the 22re. Please let us know if you have a i4 or v6.

Wouldn't a 22RE make a racket if cranked with a broken chain.

The gear on the distributer may also have broken.

Hey guys it is a V6 and the dist is turning and it is in time.

I'm guessing on pickup then. I've had them test good before and still be bad.

Bogo - I broke a timing chain a few years ago and the only noticeable difference was that the motor cranked fast. There was little resistance on the starter because there wasn't any compression going on.

X2, my chain snapped right at the bottom, so the chain was just hanging off the cam gear... not bunched up in the bottom making a bloody mess.... Same, no compression, fast cranking, and no spark.... :D

OK, that means check wiring, connectors, and critical relays.

How is the AM2 fuse and Relay?

This isn't exactly the FSM for your truck, but it is close enough as the engine its roughly the same. It likely only differs in some emissions stuff. You can find a '95 4runner one at one of the links in the Frequently Asked Questions thread at the top of this forum.
