My 45 is a no heater truck but does have defroster ducts in the windshield frame, is this normal? I have planned on installing a factory heater for years, any thoughts from the group? I have all the correct E-67 parts, to inclued a fire wall. second does anyone have an early 3 speed that they would consider parting with? My current plan is to go back together as original as possible, considering I might just have a 40 to play with soon.:)

Thanks, Chris

My '67 FJ45LV has no heater either but the defrost vents are there. I've got a 3 speed here from that truck that I will not be using.

At some point in my 64lwb's life, it became the opposite of yours. Originally a heater model, it was apparantly rolled and the replacement windshield did NOT have the defroster cutouts, just the windshield vent. Somewhere along the line someone 'cut' [and I use the term loosely] the defroster holes into the w/s frame.

In the meantime the firewall was badly butchered to install an aftermarket heater. I ended up having to graft in the pieces for the blower motor and the firewall brace. I took donor pieces from a 65, and the blower motor section worked out pretty well. On the firewall brace, the front to back measurements worked, as well as the side to side, but the folds in the brace were not the same.

Sooooooooo, my point is, whatever donor pieces you are looking at using to graft in your heater conversion, look them over VERY closely.

Cruiser_guy, thanks for the note on the three speed, I'll keep it in mind but I think the shipping to Colo. would be pretty steep. I am hoping to find one closer.

Mark, my thought on the heater issue is that I have two options 1) cut and splice the doner fire wall, from a 66 FJ40. 2) disect my cab and replace the entire firewall. Either way the chance for calamity is high. I guess my best option is to dismantle the donor section and judge how tuff it might be from there. Rather than splice it all in a piece at a time, my prefference is to swap the firewall for the best "factory" apperance.

Keep in mind that if you go down that road, you're going to need a 'heater' model wiring harness, 'heater' model 4wd cable and hoses, maybe something else I'm not remembering at the moment. ALL that stuff was different between the two models.

If you cannot find one by spring 2008 let me know. I drive up each summer anyways.
