For those who used both, which one has a better ride, less road noice, durability and good on/off road traction. And which one will you buy again if you have to?

I am thinking of buying new set of 285/75 r16 tires and cannot decide which way to go. I don't put much miles on the truck. May be 6-7k a year. Nitto TG are about $136 and BGG's are about $180.00. I have had BFG AT's on my previous truck(Pajero) and had a lot's of road noice.

I don't have extensive knowledge of the BFG's, but have driven a number of friends trucks with them. The ride with both will be stiffer and provide more road noise than stock. I have over 10K on my Nitto TG 295's and love them. I feel they are slightly quieter than the BFG's and ride down the road very similar. I would buy them again tomorrow. They've done well offroad on both dirt and rock, and handled all the snow in Colorado great. Take the couple hundred $ savings and put it towards other mods!

I've had both (on different vehicles) and I think that the Nittos ride smoother and are quieter. I just didn't feel like they lasted nearly as long as they should have. In your case, where you're not racking up tons of miles, my vote would be for the Nittos. I think they look better standing still as well.;p

Have run both. Currently have Nitto's. Inexpensive, quiet, great on icy roads, wear out faster than BFG. BFG AT is better in mud and lasts longer. I'd buy Nitto'again because of better traction on icy roads. I think BFG's look "more agressive" if that's what your after. Both work well offroad for AT's.

Just got my Nitto 295's, Wife was a little freaked out by the size being 2" taller than the stock 275's. But the 285's are only .6" smaller in diameter than the 295's. So she's ok with them. The ride is great but not as smooth as the stock LTX's. As far as BFG AT's I own 2 other sets and am not pleased with the way they ride at high speeds. Had my 92 rebalanced several times and still has vibrations.

TGs do great on road. no experience off road yet. Lost 30 miles out of a 310 miles tank, though (10%?) with them over the OEM it seems at almost same size.

Is your Cruiser lifted? It looks great. I have been debating between 285s and the 295s, but I can't afford the lift now and I know that 285s don't ever rub. So a dilemma.

Also, how much perceived power did you lose?

Thanks,

Rob

I ran 295/75R16 TG's on my 2000 for a year with no lift and no problems. No heavy offroading without the lift, just some fire roads, small rocks, etc. I knew I was going to lift it and didn't want to buy tires again. There is a definite power lose, but nothing annoying. The truck was never very fast anyway!

CameraCruiser, I lifted it via AHC on the front only. It had about a 3" rake from front to back. No problems rubbing and the spare fit nicely after removing a 2 bolt bar thing and lowering its air pressure to around 35 psi. I'll try to post a before lifted picture tonight. Colicious, they are 295/75R16 Nitto TG's.

What do you mean by loss of gas milage?? It is because of the Tire(nittO) or the size(285) or both?

Thanks. I'll look forward to the picture, but no worries if you don't have the time. It seems that tire threads are always popular since tires make such an instant change to how the Crusier looks, and how you look at a cruiser.

In my perfect world I would do the 295 TGs like yours, then re-gear it and then add the suspension. I just like that little extra snap off the line, or when passing. I also wonder if re-gearing brings back the gas milage?

Probably questions for Slee, but he is off in Moab.

Thanks

I was surprised when I went to 285/75/16 power lost was minimal and MPG was not bad. Just checked MPG and in town 14.6, Hwy 18 via GPS. Just got the OK from the:princess: thanks to this thread. Nittos go on in the next couple of days.:)

size is only a tad bigger than what we had before (some Dunlop crap street tires), so I imagine it's the construction (tread, width, stronger build etc)

Pics b4 AHC adjustment w/ stock LTX tires. I'm thinking on the highway my MPG should go up with the rpms down because of the bigger size by 7.3%. Anyone know how easy and well the yellow box speedometer adjustment installs and works?

The 295s and the AHC lift really make the truck. Thanks for the before picture.

Would she notice if the running boards were missing? :D

Summit - the truck looks great with the 295's! Are you running a 295 for a spare tucked up under?

If you're only doing 6-7K a year like me, well that's for both my Cruisers... :D

I'd go with BFG. They look cooler which is the most important factor.
