That $744 for the tranny and Tcase rebuild included all new OEM seals and bearings, and I paid a higher price for the labor than I could have, but my mechanic is excellent, worth the extra and he has a mod'ed FJ40 which he loves, so he knows LC's which makes him worth more in my book.
I didn't pay that much extra though, so it was definately worth it.
My rig also has no cat. converter which I like. It is as simple as they come. The clutch booster failed, so we just capped it. The pedal is easy even without it, (my wife has never complained) so I left it since it is pricey. It is our DD. It also has a points distributor as Landpimp said. The truck is very old school, but very easy to fix in the field. And it fears no potholes.
As an aside, my friend here has a 1993 (I think) FZJ80 5 speed here and it has a carb, too. I am thinking that when my motor dies, (if ever) I'd stick one of those motors in it. That would be sweet! A 5 speed FZJ62 - extra horses, but the simplicity of a carb. Maybe someday...
Peace,
Jason
