Howdy folks, Just got my wife an '93 LC and she loves it. For now she just wants it as a DD. It has 188,000 and the speedo just quit working at Christmas. Does anyone here have a VSS or know a good place to pick-up one for a good price? When she gets tired of this rig I plan on making it an expo-type rig she can run 3's at SL with my CJ7. Hey Scott, welcome. It is most likely the speedometer cable or speedometer speed gear.

Call Toyota Dallas, tell them you are with Cottonland Cruisers and get your parts for dealer cost.

Speedo cable is an easy fix.

I crawled under and pulled the gear out of the tailhousing and it looked good, had some grease on it but looked good. It has 3 wires that plug onto the sensor. Is there another sensor?

It's most likely the sensor. one side has gear, the other side is a plug... mine actually broke. They are flippin' expensive. I ordered mine from cruiserparts.net
As much as I love new parts... this was not one that I'd buy new... and I still paid alot for a used one.

I think there's a way to test yours. a real easy way to to find someone else close and sawp them out to see if it works... it takes all of 3 minutes to get one off and swapped
