Hey everyone, I've owned my 80 series for a while now but I have just recently taken in an interest to equip it with a CB radio. I have it installed and the next thing on the check list to buy an antenna, a mount and all the other accessories and tune it. I have been doing research for a little bit now but I would much very appreciate your guys' opinions. I am leaning towards a firestick, probably a 5 footer. As far as the mounting goes, I would like to have a quick-connect and a spring so I can disconnect it for daily driving and incase it gets hit. Can't I connect those two together?? For the mount itself, could I connect it to my brush guard for the tail light? Another possibility was a door jamb between my trunk and the D post. Which of these options would be more reasonable? I was also thinking about one of those foldable mounts and somehow putting it near the back of my roof and folding it forwards for storage. Which is more advisable? Thanks so much.

well where you put the antenna will have an effect on range. but for trail comm i've found as long as you tune it (SWR), you don't have problems. i have a 4' tunable firestik installed on a firestik fender mount about a foot in front of the radio antenna (mounts to the fender and comes up between the fender and hood) . i just unscrew the antenna for daily use. and now that i have 2m, i typ only use the cb when i run with folks who aren't ham.

Nakman makes antenna mounts that bolt on below the hood seam. Very slick.

I have a 4' Firestik II that has been beaten to death for over 10 years. You don't need a spring. Wilson makes very high quality CB antennae as well. Some folks prefer them to Firestik.

yeah nakman has some shwanky stuff for sure. i'm pretty sure i just lengthened my wish list . fwiw the firestik fender-hood mount looks very similar, i have not seen nak's in person to make any comparison otherwise.
