About a year ago the wife started complaining about her back sleeping on our king size tempur-pedic mattress topper. It sat in the corner since then and she finally gave me the ok to put it to use elsewhere. So I chopped it up to use as a sleeping pad in the back of the 80. It doesn't roll up small but when I am going solo camping it doesn't matter. After I finished up the animals quickly realized it was the best new place to take a nap. Can't wait to try it out in Big Bend this weekend.

What about cutting it in to thirds so you could stack them? I've been considering doing something similar myself, but storage becomes a concern.

It rolled up good enough. I think I could have crammed it into a large sleeping bag stuff sack or tent bag if I wanted.

Interesting!! My Wife bought me a full sized Tempur-Pedic Mattress Topper on Monday for the same use in my 40.

When I travel with Gunner (my Golden Retriever), I take a tent and cot for multiple overnights - I will use the topper on my cot.

When we're only overnighting, Gunner and I sleep in my 40.

The full sized topper is perfect for my use.

I simply fold it in half (lengthwise) and it fits my cot and my 40 perfectly.

For 40-sleep, I remove the passenger seat back (before I leave home) and lay a doubled plywood platform (72"X24"), from back to dash and use the doubled topper on the platform.

Plus, Gunner likes to sleep on it while I'm driving. I try to sleep on it when he drives, as well.

Great idea! Very comfortable! And great minds think alike!!

...and Tempur-Pedic foam is warm, much warmer than an air mattress.

That's what I use in my pop up. We didn't like it on the bed so repurposed it. Wife doesn't like it when it's cold, says it's too hard, but if you lay on it, it warms up and softens.

have fun in big bend this weekend!

Mine is around 4" I think. It worked out pretty good. I could still feel the floor a bit but much better than my backpacking mattresses that I had been using. My main sleeping issue this weekend was I forgot my pillow so I had to stuff clothes in a stuff sack.
