New Torque Wrench

The other day while wandering around another Sears Tool section, I saw a torque wrench tester for sale. Anyone use one of these? Does the tester also need calibration from time to time? If so, a tester would be sorta silly!

Yep!! The company I work for has 2 (dual range) testers, and about 50 torque wrenches. It makes sense for us to test our own wrenches, and just send one tester at a time, out (yearly) to be calibrated. The tester we have is so easy to use, the mechanics just do it themselves. Our calibration techs arent involved in that part.


I too am looking for a cheap/midrange priced torque wrench. I figure I'll go used snap on or top of the line(ish) craftsman, but I've got the calibration part beat.

In addition to Phil's question, just how far out of spec were they?

LOL...I'll have to ask the mechanics. I'm a calibration tech.

We use STURTEVANT RICHMONT brand torque wrenches. Its a industrial brand I think. I was told they havent had any failures that were not a result of abuse, but they have had a few that were beat up fail. They failed completely. They no longer "cammed over".
