Is it possible to bolt a 3.5litre turbo diesel engine to a 2.4litre diesel transmission? the reason I ask is because I would rather know before I pull the engine and I'm having a really hard time finding info. The truck is a 1988 4runner and don't know the years of the motors, any responses would be greatly appriciated.

It's doubtful that the engine will bolt right up to a that transmission, however you may be able to build an adapter plate to get the job done.

You could try advanced adapters, but I don't know how common that swap is... Best of luck!!!
