My truck is in transit from Japan ... I searched a long time to try and find any truck that some one had spent love and money on and I found this .... its got a small leak on the front big steel ball that the front wheel pivots on ... Small but there .. Will this be needed to be fixed for the safty inspection ?
What is the small lever on the floor to the left of the shifter ? its not the transfer case one I know that ...

Any things I need to look for ?
I will want to turbo this some time too..

Whats the best place to take this for service so I dont get hosed ?

Thanks in advance guys ! !

Does that thing have cable lockers? If so, stop right now, that diff is dangerous, you need to pull it off, send it to me, and I will send you some nice replacement (sans locker, who needs those anyway?).

seriously though, I wouldn't worry about it, if it really is that minor, wipe it off before the inspection and no one will tell. I have seen really bad leaks, and they go unfixed for years (no names, I promise Jim) I would let it go untill you feel confident to do it yourself, good way to learn. Never had a JDM inspected, so I don't know how anal they are about stuff, but I don't see that being a safety issue, only means your axle seal is slightly leaking. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

welcome Wild Fx!

The small leaver to the left of the shifter is most likely a PTO (power take off) winch control, from the picture it looks like the winch itself has been removed.
There are few of them around if you ever want to replace it. However, most members believe electric winch is better.

As for inspection itself, since the rules of it have been tighten (to try to stop the JDM's from taking big bites from local dealer sales) and many small shops do not do them anymore, talk to the neighborhood importers of JDM,s. For a small fee, I would imagine, they will send you the right way.
Here are some good people and places to contact for advise:

Well I will make sure to clean it right up then befor inspect ...

I have a guy that is taking care of it all ... Turn Key ... All I had to do was find what I want ....

I am going to redo the inside so I will take that lever off for sure ...

I will make sure I rip those cable lockers off and send them straight to ya Deny ;)

What about those fenders ... are they compleat panels and fenders do you think ?

I want to make sure to source out some of the most go wrong parts for it too .. I have a E brake cable comming for it ...

Thanks for all the help for the noob ..
Kevin :smokin:

Those fenders look like somekind of custom fiberglass job. I would think someone just paid a body shop to build up the fenders like that, I doubt there is a company out there making body panels like that.

Nice thing about FG is that slight and medium damage is usually pretty easy and quick to fix up - unless a tree eats the whole thing. :D Replacing them with rubber flares doesn't look like an option given how the guards appear to have been cut.

BTW, is the winch that sat on top of that front bar coming with it?

Yeah I figured it didn't have lockers, since Kevin was asking about a turbo, just thought I would ask.

Welcome aboard, that is a horrible truck to buy, you should sell it to me right away before you make a big mistake :D
That try aside, congratulations on the new toy and wish you many happy trail scratches in the new future! This is definitely the place you want to be for info on it.

604-944-0382 is my cell number since the move last year
the shop number is 604-461-3540
I only moved 5 mins. away but I crossed the coquitlam/port moody border and couldn't take the phone number with me.

cool Cruiser too!!

You could go for a turbo "designed" for the 3B and pay that much, or you can do a search in the diesel section and see what a bunch of other people are doing, Mercur, Mercedes 300 Diesel (very similar spec'd engine), etc. Ends up working the same but is less expensive.
BTW - very clean and shiny!
