Hey guys, hows it going? Just wanted to say "HI. Don't know if this is the right place for intros. If not, please move it.

But anyway, I've got an 80 toyota pick-up which came with a blown 20r and bad transmission. I'll be putting in a 22r and w56, in the next week or so. I have to get a clutch first.

Plans are to, make the head swap, I'd be using the old 20r head, lift, bigger tires, etc.

I'll see a later.

Welcome to 'Mud :flipoff2: (official 'Mud greeting)
You've come to the right place!

I'm liking the sound of your project, that W56's a HUGE step up from the L-series tranny, as is the 22R from the 20R. The head-swap's supposed to yield some real results, too, I look forward to your build!

Also check out the Clubhouse forums, and find one in your area, chances are, there will be alot of folks willing to give you a hand with the swap.

Your truck is close to what I have. Mine came with the 22r, but I just added a W56. It is pretty straight forward, you will need a cross member and a spedo extension cable. The clutch stuff all is the same from the 22r to the w56. You should be able to use your transfer case and flanges. If you are using transfer case that came from the w56 they will have 10 mm bolt holes, you case has 8 mm bolts. You can use your dive lines but you will have to make the front one longer and the rear shorter. This can be done at a driveline shop.

Good luck

LOL Thanks for the welcome guys!!!

That's on the to-do list already, as is dual t-cases. I think I'm gonna wait to redo the drivelines until I have the other t-case in. Thanks for the heads-up though.

I'll try to post a pic later. :D C ya

I just want to start off by once again sayin thanks for the welcome!

now, shall I start?

Here is the truck when it was still somewhat put together. This pic is from several months ago.

These are pics of the engine compartment before I painted it. I don't yet have pics of it completed. Now...It is completed. I just don't have any pics of it.

Hehe A short bus huh? :D Sweet!

I think it's a short bed, it's not bobbed. the way the pic is taken makes it look shorter than it really is.

I dig it! Those first-gens are the best. Granted, they're not as refined, or advanced as the newer rigs, and they're noisy as heck, they're great, I love my little Hilux.

They're perfect candidates for mods, too, because they look so unassuming. you can put a really overbuilt 22-R that's bored over with a ported, polished 20-R head and a better transmission (I have to say, my truck's L52's pretty lame), and you'll end up with a truck with a Millennium Falcon complex.

By the way, the "short bus" is a crack at yellow 'Yotas. If you've ever seen a yellow FJ40 with the top on...
