Well I outgrew my 4 runner like 2 years ago but I was determined to drive it as long as possible. It was never as reliable as I had wished and kept having to mess with it and I just never had the time to give it what it needed. Had a few good trips in it but it was slow and uncomfortable and was burning lots of oil. Hated taking the kids in it with all of the nasty oil fumes so it was basically a daily driver.

Picked up a 2000 4 runner a couple of months ago and I'm still grinning. Its a limited with an auto, rear locker, leather, sunroof....and a supercharger. Fun little truck with 31" at's but bone stock. I am looking forward to doing some stockish wheeling with the family again. Im even leaving the running boards on for the winter as this is my ski truck for now. No more camping in the slow lane anymore :)

Very nice rig Mark, hope to see it out on the trails soon:steer:

I am causally keeping an eye out for one of those as an eventual replacement for my LX.

Is that fuel economy combined or highway? Do you think you could get that 20 with some better self control?

Most of my driving is city unfortunately, and I attribute most of my not so stellar mileage to that fact. I took it to Denver and back once, but was doing like 80 the whole way so no change. I drove it to Monarch a couple of weeks ago, driving was pretty slow, had the AWD on for most of it and managed to eek about 16-17mpg. I think if I had it on the highway and kept it to a more manageable speed I would get higher teens.

I try to drive it like a grandma but unfortunately the vast majority of my driving is in the city.

The supercharger does not help one bit. However, we are blessed in the fact that at our altitude fuel mods and the 7th injector are pretty much unnecessary, I don't even have to run premium fuel. I generally use regular or mid grade off and on just because. It's hard not to punch the throttle when getting on the highway, or just passing some riced out honda civic here and there :)

My wife's wrangler with 2" lift, heavy OR fab front bumper, and 32's is pulling down 19 MPG's in town, and she drives it like she's one of the duke boys..... Just saying...

Haha, yeah, but you cant fit anything in it. That 4runner is a dang fine all around great vehicle. It just needs some altitude to keep those rockers safe. I know in your hands, it will get there someday.... Or maybe you can leave it stock and buy that wagon you're always saying you'll have again. :steer:

I would think that Wrangler would be a much lighter vehicle and account for some of that difference. I wonder if the S/C would help or hurt in city driving compared to the n/a engine? I have no personal experience with a S/C.

Uses more gas period.

There are some guys using methanol injection. Kit is about $150 and then just buy some methanol. Supposedly ups HP by 10-15 and gets better mileage.

I think that going down the road of fuel mods is a slippery slope. I don't have the kind of cash it takes to make things go fast.

I'm even keeping the running boards on for now
Easier to reach the ski rack. Sliders will come eventually, just enjoying driving a nice truck for now before I go messing it all up.
