Hello all,
Quick story time. My son is 24. His best friend from kindergarten parents have had this Tundra as long as we've known them. They bought a new Tacoma and decided to sell the Tundra. Since we're a Toyota family, we got first dibs on it. My wife went to the bank and got a cashiers check right away and I bought a plane ticket from Boise to Portland.

I flew there last Saturday and drove it home. It has 24x,xxx miles, but the engine only has around 100K. The wife would do the oil changes. One time she didn't notice the gasket stuck on the block and installed the new oil filter and all the oil pissed out when he was driving to work. They had the local Toyota dealer install a new engine. Yay!

Anyways, I've had Landcruisers for 20+ years but am totally unfamiliar with the Tundra. Is there anything I need to look out for specifically? The steering/suspension is tight, the brakes are great, and I averaged 17.5 mph on the highway headed back home.
It has air bags in the rear and the frame mounted tie downs for a camper. It also has a very nice Are brand shell on the bed.

Nice truck. That green looks great. The things to really pay attention to on the First Gen Tundras: 1. Timing belt/water pump replaced every 100k miles or 10yrs. Only use the Aisin kit. Also replace the radiator (plastic turns from black to brown with heat cycles) at this time as well as hoses and thermostat. 2. Lower ball joints (LBJ) should be replaced every 100k as well. Only buy Toyota OEM. A poor design makes catostrophic failure a possibility in which the wheel destroys the fender. 3. Frame rust has destroyed many of these trucks and steps should be taken to protect it, but it doesn't sound like this is a likely issue for you. This are a few of the highlights.

Thanks!
Timing belt is first on the list. I'll start looking into radiator and the rest of what you noted.

I'm too damn old and broke down to mechanic any more. I have found a Toyota mechanic in the Boise area with good reviews I'm going to try out.
