got the tires balanced on the bubble balancer, took it for a test drive and... it is worse than it was before. I've got some other things to check but I am going to talk to trailworthy again tomorrow just to let them know what is going on.

I may pull the beads and just try balancing with stick on weights. with the beads you have to break them down, get the beads out, put them back together, put them on the balancer, determine how many beads are required to balance and then break them back down to put the beads back in and put them back together.

Have you still got your old wheels that you can run around on? Did you try them with no weight yet? I know trying them with no weight is counter intuitive but it's worth a shot.

that sucks donkey goat man. breaking beadlocks down is not fun. At this point, trying no weights sounds like your best option.

I didn't air them up fully when I balanced them so that may be the problem. I want to rule out any of my errors before I get too frustrated and start placing blame. I am going to do one at a time now, starting with the fronts. Since I am going to pull the weights and then air them up for balancing I might as well try them unbalanced first. assuming they aren't balanced I am going to try balancing with stick on weights since I can play with that without having to break the tires down every time.

I think I have narrowed it down to a bad tire. I broke the front passenger side down and rebalanced with stick on weights and still had the same wobble. looking at the front driver tire it looked really out of round when I spun it so I moved it to the back and the steering wobble is all but gone but now it shakes its butt at 35 mph. The tire in question has three significant cuts in the sidewall so I am hoping it will be replaced. the fifth tire was worn on the outer lugs so I am expecting two replacement tires.

I finally lost my patience and called, called, called, and called again yesterday and sent messages to every contact I could find on here and on Pirate and got a response back from Todd, the owner, this morning. They are supposed to call me this afternoon so hopefully I will have good news to report. I thought I would bring it back here instead of continuing to air my grievances in the 80 series forum.

JEEBUS. So besides actually sucking at an offroad or SUV tire, the folks that sell them are also hard to reach? Sorry for your troubles.

gearing should be right, it still seems to pull better than it did with the auto and 31's. They are surprisingly quiet on the road too, at least compared the the worn bighorns.

I feel pretty sure the balance issue will work out. The odds of just throwing them on the rims and having them all balanced seems pretty low to me. I'm going to start with the fronts, break them down, pull the beads out, clean them up, and get a bubble balancer to figure out how the tire needs to sit on the rim and how many beads they need.

PM me if you want some counteract for balancing...you can insert through valve steam...

Thanks, but that won't work with these. the valve stem sits inside the pvc for the double beadlock. there is 1/4" hole to let the air pass through.

Also, Just talked to Andy from trailworthy and they are shipping out two replacement tires tomorrow morning. Hopefully I will have some good news to report soon...

i hope it works out for you.... and i was rooting for you to get 5 new bajas in place of the MTRs maybe at least you will have better results good luck:cheers:

aaargh! Still no tires so I sent a message today asking for an update. Turns out they are sold out of the Goodyear MTs - they are not even listed on their website anymore. They said they sold them all to a distributor, it would have been nice if they had mailed me two first. Andy said he is going to buy two from a competitor and send them to me next week. I am going to call and ask about the baja's. I don't want to shell out any more cash for these but if replacements are going to be hard to find it kind of defeats the purpose of the goodyears.

Got any Updates?

Got any Updates?

I wish. I just sent another email to trailworthy but I probably won't hear anything back. I did order some new to me ome comp 4" springs. After looking at the truck for a few weeks on the new tires I realized that I don't really like the low lift/huge tire look.

That sucks I was really hoping it would work out for you.

It will work out eventually - in my last post I should have been clearer that they just wouldn't get back to me right away. I fully expect two tires to be delivered, just don't know when and suspect they will just show up one day(soon hopefully).

Finally heard back - tires still haven't been shipped. Apparently there was some confusion and they say that they thought they had already been shipped. I would have thought my daily email asking for status updates would have tipped them off that they had not, but I don't really care at this point. Andy promised the tires would be back in stock on Monday and that he would personally make sure they were shipped out then. hopefully they will finally ship and the new tires will actually be in better shape than the two they are replacing.
