$3,800 including 3-days of install labor.

Seriously, if you are satisfied, then good for you.

When I spent that much building a VW motor, people thought I was crazy not to buy a stereo:)

Only the 8 inch JL sub :flipoff2:

Get you the 10 W7 :D

Please post pictures, I can’t stand it no more! :bounce:

Alright already! Just the deck and sub...the speakers are behind the factory grills are buried underneath the passenger seat.

Judging from my JL8 I'll bet that 13 shakes eh? What are you driving it with?

nice setup. however i'm a bit skeptical on the dollar figure.
can you share with us how much the labor was out of the 4grands that was spent....

Probably just about half, as it takes allot of time to remove all the panels to get everything installed.
Dean

well if the subwoofer was part of the install, then that was not mounted inside the body panel. just the wiring to the back. the spearkes, yes I can see labor over there. but at best buy or circuit city etc. the installation for the speakers is free.
that leaves the headunit. and amps....

Eclipse 8455 $650 ($200 off)
Dynaxorb: $65
Dynamat Door (4) Kit: $180
Dynamat Trunk Kit: $130
4-MB Quart Reference Speakers: $579 (1/2 price)
1-JL Sub & JL Cabinet: $550
4- MB Quart Premium Tweeters: $579 (35% off)
1-JL Audio 300W x 4 Amp: $549
1-JL Audio 250W x 1 Monoblock Amp: $429
Wiring, RCA Jacks, Banana Plugs, etc: #247.85
Total: $3,958.85

They also included the sales tax in the total amount.

There is no question I could have spent less...or even more for that matter. However if every dollar spent was driven by amount not value I would have just bought a 1999 Suburban for almost half what the 99 LC cost me...and put a Bose system in it...

I do know you can not obtain this level of sonic quality at Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. The only mass type merchant that could have provided this level of sound was Magnolia...and they were significantly higher priced like to like.

I do envy the new LX owners that have the factory Mark Levinson sound systems...that is truly reference standard for car (and home) audio).

based upon the prices you've got an awesome deal !
good luck and keep us updated on any other add ons you put on the lc in future.

Yeh...one more good sized sale [or maybe two :^)] and it's OME suspension kit; Slee diff drop kit; TJM front bumper with winch; Slee rear bumper; Drawer unit; fridge/freezer; dual battery system; Welds with MTR's...and then it's off for fishing and hunting...

With that monster back there, where do you keep your tools!

Right now, since I have only had this thing about 6-weeks, they are in a rubber made box....the goal is to get the drawer system. And after next weekend, with grandkids coming to visit, the rear seats are outtathere!

Damn, you hyped that thing out quick.

Thanks to all of you on IH8MUD I researched the LC for many, many months before deciding to get this '99 (all my compadres drive GM 'Burbies...with all the General Misery issues too). So I have had a fair amount of time to get the "want list" figured out.

The other really cool thing about these cruisers is if/when I move to a new LC virtually everything aftermarket will get pulled out of my current '99 and moved over.

That was another thing the stereo (Car Home Audio here in Reno) shop promised: They would remove the existing system and all it's components and move them over to a new vehicle at no-charge. This sound system install was one of the few times I actually felt like I got way more value than I paid for...no regrets.

that's great to know. i have been told by my friends who drive the lc that the subwoofer in the stock system is really the most powerful one. and therefore many have opted to go the aftermarket route with it.
enjoy it !

My Cruiser stereo

:) Got my 99 Cruiser about a month ago. Love it so far. Really excited about what I can do to it to personalize it. First thing I did was upgrade the stereo. Factory stereo was ok, but I wanted some SOUND. Luckily I had my system that I had taken out of my previous Grand Cherokee. Keep in mind, I have had most of this system for a couple of years and did all the labor myself.

System:

Sony CDX-M700 (BlackFace) deck $270 from Etronics.com (same deck went for $550 from Crutchfield)

Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 (Bridged into mono 310 watts) $175 from Carstereo.com

JL Audio Powerwedge with two 10" subs $300 from local car audio shop

MAD TWH-14 Wiring harness from Onlinecarstereo.com $15 w/shipping(allows aftermarket stereo to use factory amp without having to bypass and rewire)

Sub amp wiring kit $25 and dash kit $15 from Best Buy

Labor= Couple of hours of my Wednesday evening mostly spent running the wires under the trim.

Overall sounds pretty darn good. Had to adjust placement of my sub for better sound. The rear cargo area is bigger than my Grand was. Disconnected the factory sub. The deck has built in adjustable crossovers for all the speakers and sub so the sounds I want go to the correct speakers. I ran the bass adjustment control knob for the amp into the ashtray for easy adjustment on the fly. Also have an aux input wire run to the glove compartment so that I can easily connect my mp3 player or laptop. The only thing I don't too terribly care for is how kinda cheap the dash kit is. I was hoping for somthing a little flusher looking. The cheap plastic looks wierd on such a refined dash. Probably going to upgrade the deck soon. Hopefully a double-din nav/dvd system once the prices come down a little more.

Also, had a couple of Cepek offroad lights left from the Jeep, so I mounted those hidden behind the front grill. K&N has a new Fuel Injection Performance Kit for it, so that will probably be my next little mod.

system help?

my 1996 landcruiser lost the balls to its sound system, and im trying to find a system out there that would be good.the speakers still work but they suck, and i want some sub's i dont want them to take up the whole back end, (any advice on concealed sub's maybe?) but i want a little thump at least. i dont really want to spend alot on it. just something thats not gonna sound like one of those bad ringtone songs on a cheap cell phone.
