I ordered Fox remote reservoir coilovers and shocks and being a neophyte am wondering if it is necessary to mess with the KDSS system when installing new shocks, or is that only required for rear spring installatio?

I just did my suspension, and I think you'll have to work really hard to get around it, if you don't open both KDSS shutter valve screws. One of mine was stuck and I had to do a bunch of workarounds to get the lower control arms down enough to get the front coilovers in. I'd strongly recommend making sure your KDSS shutter valve screws can be turned, and opening them (no more than three full turns) before touching any of the suspension.

Edit: I should reinforce that I had a BAD KDSS lean when I was done because I didn't have them open. I still had to get the KDSS shutter valve screws both open anyway to get it leveled. I highly recommend opening them a few turns before you do anything else, and if they don't move, figure out how to get them open before doing the suspension.

Thanks very much. My vehicle is almost new so I wouldn’t expect too much difficulty opening the valves, just worried about potential catastrophic result messing with that system, so didn’t want to touch it if not necessary.

The catastrophic result is if you open them too far. The irritating result is not opening them enough to do the install and/or end up with a lean afterwards the you have to go back and rebalance.

There are a bunch of threads to help with this if you search for kdss. When I did it for the first time on my GX I was nervous but it went fine. Good luck

@Moby - agree 100%.

It also makes it harder to install the coilovers if you don't turn the valves.

In my opinion, if the vehicle is new and the KDSS shutter valve screws move freely, this is a no-brainer. Absolutely turn them (but no more than 3 full turns).

I'd also put some LPS3 or marine grease on the surface of that area where the bare metal is to eliminate future issues, just as preventative maintenance.

Since you're installing coilovers up front you will have to open the KDSS valves. Just make sure it's MAX 3 turns. I believe its rear coils you can swap without having to open the valves.. someone will comment and correct where I am wrong. But definitely need to open if you're doing front coilovers.

Thanks all. I will actually be helping someone who has lots of experience with earlier model LC’s, but not sure whether he has dealt with KDSS. I will review the topic further on the forum. Much appreciate the help.
