I've been trying to figure out the right type of rear spring replacement for my wife's 1999 Land Cruiser but am getting confused by all that I've researched as we're being very particular with what we want.

I got it for her when it had 280k on the original rear springs so it has had a nice plush ride that she likes. Now at 327k and with hauling gear and towing our boat, we're realizing that even though we like it, it's too soft for our extra purposes. We don't know what it's suppose to feel like if we just install OEM springs.

I like the secondary rubber bushing setup for when it's loaded like when we tow our small boat ~3k lbs. In the future, we may look at towing a camper ~4k lbs. I don't want to add air bags but her sag may be too much?

For the towing purposes, I wouldn't mind getting a stronger spring but I also don't want to take away her plush ride.

For an example of the softness of the springs, when I take out the 3rd row seats, the rear end raises up about 1/2-3/4". When the middle seats are loaded with 3 adults, it's almost sagging onto the rubber bushings.

Would I be good with just a direct OEM replacement?

after this many years/miles, you'll likely see a pretty big improvement with a new set of OEM springs

I went down this route a couple years ago for the exact same reasons and ended up with airbags at five PSI. I couldn’t be happier with the ride height and you can add more air depending on your tongue weight up to 30 psi I think.

I also recommend new oem springs and air bags to assist with towing.

Installed the OME 2865 springs which has a 1/2" lift. Didn't matter as it greatly raised the rear end regardless. Ride is fine, but definitely different after the worn ones.

Towed our boat and it barely affected the springs. Am liking the change.
