Picked up a 1986, first generation 4runner this weekend. The 4runner is very clean, straight, some clear coat peeling and is a one owner vehicle that had been donated to a non-profit for them to sell and keep the money. Apparently the woman was about 70 and very proud of her vehicle, it has only 157,000 miles. It drives very nicely and the more I'm around it the more I like it. Neil and I performed some PM this afternoon and I was pleased to find a NAPA Gold oil filter had been used, a Toyota air filter was in place and the drive line appeared to have been serviced regularly, based on the appearance of the displaced old grease and staining around the U joints. With Neil learning to drive we wanted another vehicle that was more fuel efficient than the Land Cruiser. The deal we made with Neil is he would pay half of the purchase and I would by any needed parts/fluids but he supplies the labor. More routine maintenance is in his immediate future ;) Big thanks to Luke for offering to give up his Saturday morning to make the trip out the the wildlife sanctuary (NE of Brighton) to check it out.

Very nice!

I wonder if it was repainted? I've never seen a 1st gen 4Runner with peeling clear coat. You often see that on the 2nd gens.

Funny, we ha that same conversation while checking outt the runner. I don't think first gens had two stage paint, but if it's been painted they did a hell of a job hiding the transitions.
