Greetings from Tucson. I bought a 2000 LX470 yesterday and needed a resource of knowledge to gently guide me through this ownership journey.
A little about my intended use for this rig. I hunt and fish in some remote spots all over AZ and own a 2022 F250, which I love. But...the F250 is just too big to get into some spots without tearing up the paint. Ask me how I know. I wanted a capable off road vehicle that could go anywhere and still travel highway speeds for hours. The LX fits the bill.
The LX, as I bought it is mostly stock with 228K miles. All big service jobs have been done in the last few years(timing belt/waterpump/exhaust manifold gaskets). The AHC was deleted by the previous owner and replaced with SLEE and OME parts. Currently it has 33" BFG K02s. Everything else is stock. Almost, the interior seats were reupholstered about 5 years ago and are in great shape, but that won't help my off-road abilities. I'm not planning on crawling with it so no plans to heavily modify with lifts and linkage upgrades but..
Current list of must/want upgrades:
Must's
1- Driver's side CV Boot tore the day I bought it. Looks like nothing is compromised but I need to decide if I want to tackle just a boot or the whole axle assembly. Also need to decide if I want to do the job or if its worth having a shop do it right.
2- Hood and rear window struts are failing/have failed(hood). Ordered aftermarket set already, will get done this week.
Want's
1- Remove grandpa's stock rails and get decent sliders (SLEE/White Knuckle/Metal Tech) but not sure which brand.
2- Headlight remedy. This seems way more complicated a rabbit hole that I would have thought. All I do know is that the current stock headlights (low beams) are terrible and I need to find some upgrade that doesn't require an electrical engineering degree.
3- Might want to upgrade the wheels to something more current than the chromed Lexus ones. Maybe a set of Methods?
Anyways, way too long of an intro but that's about it. Glad to be a part of this forum and look forward to getting and sharing a bunch of info.
-Cheers
