New LX 570....now what?

Drive it and enjoy it. Dont rush to get all the gear asap.

I did that on my 80 series. So now that I got my 570 I have learned to keep it simple. When I started gearing up my 80 I went with roof rack and RTT. Front bumper. Rear bumper.. swingout. Lift 35s etc etc etc. After adding shelves.. removing them.. adding drawers removing those.. I settled on some slee drawers I got second hand here on mUd. Went from a 80 to a 63 to 30 qt fridge. Still have the 63. I started moto camping on my Africa twin. That really got my to lighten my kit. Not quite backpacking style where you count ounces, but looking for compact lightweight items and keep bare minimum.

Now on my 570 I use all the motocamping kit. So I can have everything im the back. I have the 30qt fridge and the 63 can replace that if it is a looong trip. No roof rack. If I need to bring my Oztent or Gazelle tent because it is a bigger group I can just strap those on the roof. Awning would be nice but I am on the fence on adding weight up high and getting extra wind noise. I might add a little mesh shelf inside the back om the third row. I have one for my 80. It can be removed but allows for some vertical organization.

As far as tires, i plan on keeping it mild so that I have no need for a rear swingout. BUT i do like a rear swingout because it gives you a place for a trasharoo or other such bag...

I'm not much into drinking the overland Koolaid much now. I would rather save the money for fuel and beer so I can get out more.

Thats got the second row reserved for the dogs. All the camp gear for two people in the second row footwell. Fridge in the back with some clothes and dry food in bags. Jetboil for coffee and some water. Nice and simple.

This is me on the AT with camping gear for one. And water and stuff for making coffee abd freeze dried food.
Also on the AT i have tools and a spare innertube for the bike in the bags.

Yeah . All that stuff looks cool in the instagram pics and youtube vids. But the memories from just getting out and making it happen are priceless.

Yeah…. I admittedly did all that years ago

Now I’m bare bones and WAYYY less crap to deal with while traveling

Yeah. It seems like it is something you have to get out of your system. The good thing is that the second hand market on that stuff is boomin. So you can recoup some funds.

Yeah, I actually MADE $ on my 100 selling it with all the crap added. Win!

Helps IF you are poor. Then you never have money to buy that stuff.

My poverty spec LCs over the last 20 years have gone more places with a set of tires, and sometimes lift (most times oem suspension) than most of this bumpered up snorkeld up USDM trucks that are parking lot queens.

But hey these guys are stimulating the economy and my 401k Thanks them for that.

I Have the benefit of driving all over the US in my 18 wheeler. I scored most of my big items second hand for my 80 just because it was the stuff that was too big to ship. That made it stay under a decent budget. I got sliders in VA. Front and Rear Bumpers in NH. Tires in OR. Fridge in TX.. etc etc.

hell ya brother!!!

I just got the truck and paid for the AHC so I'm a little reluctant to rip the ahc out of the truck.

Welcome to the community. You don’t need to rip it out to modify your truck and wheel it hard (or not!). Put some AT tires on it, get out there and see what you need. These trucks are amazingly tough.

Personally, I would run 1" Bora spacers, 18" Tundra TRD wheels with 305/65 ATs (KO2, Open Country, Wildpeaks), and then Slee LX sliders (the OEM side steps on the LX do sit meaningfully lower to ground than the LC's steps) and call it a day for a while until you assess you need more. IMHO that tire size is great compromise between offroad and street use, will give you a wider more stable track and stance, and additional ground clearance, plus you have AHC for on demand suspension lift (and can do a sensor lift in your garage for no money). These trucks are incredibly capable in stock form.

The CBI front bumper is relative KISS and light weight, main reason I like it a lot, yet provides good approach angles and in the process cuts down on the hour glass grill size...
I LOVE the CBI bumper but it appears as if it is only compatible down to 2019 year models. Since mine is a 2018, I guess it won't fit...unless someone with a 2018 LX can confirm that the CBI bumper does fit 2018 year models... fingers crossed. Anyone?
